When Barry Fairweather dies unexpectedly in his early 40s, the little town of Pagford is left in shock. Pagford is, seemingly, an English idyll, with a cobbled market square and an ancient abbey, but what lies behind the pretty façade is a town at war. Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils.... Pagford is not what it at first seems. And the empty seat left by Barry on the town's council soon becomes the catalyst for the biggest war the town has yet seen.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I tried, I really tried. I even restarted it a couple of times, but this book was not funny, it was not entertaining, and it was not intriguing. Sorry Ms. Rowling, I know you can do much better, but this one is a stinker.

Tananarive Due, author of The Living Blood won the American Book Award and is praised as Stephen King's equal by Publishers Weekly. In The Good House, Due sets a story of ancient powers and modern retribution in a small Pacific Northwest town. When a young woman returns to her grandmother's empty mansion, she is pitted against demonic forces that have poisoned her family for generations.

What made the experience of listening to The Good House the most enjoyable?

The characters really draw you in. The narrator does a really good job at matching the voice to fit the characters. I hated to put it down and looked forward to getting back to the story.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Grandma. She was the center and the reason for the story. I would jump on the chance to hear her story in full detail, starting when she was a little girl and following her whole life.

Have you listened to any of Robin Miles’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    This was the first one

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Cory, when we find out why he did what he did.

    Any additional comments?

    Thank you!

Would you try another book from Vonda Sinclair and/or Andrew Bryan?

Maybe yes. There was enough here to make me think that her work has the possibility to evolve into bigger and better stories. After-all, even my favorite authors have written some stories that are not on my "favorite stories" list. This one was not that exciting for me. I love a good Highlander story. But, I didn't really get into these characters. The narration probably had a lot to do with it, but it wasn't one of those stories that I couldn't wait to get back to.

If you’ve listened to books by Vonda Sinclair before, how does this one compare?

This was the first Vonda Sinclair book I listened to.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

The main male character's voice didn't fit him. It was all rough and gruff without any of that sexy brutish appeal that I like to hear from a strong male character. While the "villain" was supposed to be this heart-stealing, sought-after bachelor guy, that had the female main character's heart and affection (before he showed his true colors), but the voice used made him sound like a sniveling weakling - I just could buy that she would have fallen for him in the first place.

Do you think My Fierce Highlander needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

It is advertised as book one, but I will most likely veer away from book two if it is a continuation of this story and had the same style of narration. I think this narrator is capable of doing better, but then not everybody can nail it every time. He did have a good accent, a good voice, but the voices he chose for the main characters missed the mark for me.

    Any additional comments?

Hard work and countless hours goes into writing and producing a final offering. I appreciate Vonda's efforts and hope that this critique doesn't come across as mean spirited or petty, that was not my intention. Down the road, I'll look her up again.

Would you listen to Rowan's Lady again? Why?

I liked the story very much. The only downside to the audible version was I couldn't understand the narrator when he did Lily's voice-making it hard to imagine her as a

    believable chacter.

What did you like best about this story?

I like stories about highlanders, what else can I say!

    Which scene was your favorite?

    When Beatrice gets caught

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

    Betrayal, love, strenght
