A young woman is murdered in her Oslo flat. One finger has been severed from her left hand, and behind her eyelid is secreted a tiny red diamond in the shape of a five-pointed star - a pentagram, the devil’s star. Detective Harry Hole is assigned to the case with his long-time adversary Tom Waaler and initially wants no part in it. But Harry is already on notice to quit the force and is left with little alternative but to drag himself out of his alcoholic stupor and get to work. A wave of similar murders is on the horizon....

Would you consider the audio edition of The Devil's Star to be better than the print version?

I have not read the print version

What did you like best about this story?

the small moments, pauses and reflections bring right to the time and place in these stories. These books make me want to write

Which character – as performed by Robin Sachs – was your favorite?

    Harry Hole

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Its pretty disturbing overall. I do think that Nebso's description of Harry's addiction is well done and in this case it make Harry Real!

    Any additional comments?

Better that Stieg Larson. Deserves more recognition.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

There should be more background on the protagonist

What was most disappointing about Keigo Higashino and Alexander O. Smith ’s story?

    predictable.

Also the suicide attempt by the daughter seemed to be too much.

    Which scene was your favorite?

seeing the main character work on the math problems. This added a lot to this character's development

Do you think The Devotion of Suspect X needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

no - not much to go on

    Any additional comments?

    no

This captured my attention. The writing is good, not great. I expect Abbott's writing will improve and I look forward to more stories about "Sam."

The interest in Parkour or "free running" is very cool and a thread throughout. The only other reference I know of it comes from a book by John Twelve Hawks called the Traveler. I recommend both.

    Good read / listen

America is a barren landscape of smoldering ashes, devoid of life except for those people still struggling to scratch out some type of existence. Amidst this destruction, a father and his young son walk, always toward the coast, but with no real understanding that circumstances will improve once they arrive. Still, they persevere, and their relationship comes to represent goodness in a world of utter devastation.

I know this is a tough listen. It gets right to the grittiest part of humanity, survival. There are so many things that stick with me as I finish this book. It is worth every minute. Cormac McCarthy is a masterful writer.

After a near-fatal head injury, Navy SEAL lieutenant Tom Paoletti catches a terrifying glimpse of an international terrorist in his New England hometown. When he calls for help, the Navy dismisses the danger as injury-induced imaginings. In a desperate effort to prevent disaster, Tom creates his own makeshift counterterrorist team, assembling his most loyal officers, two elderly war veterans, a couple of misfit teenagers, and Dr. Kelly Ashton - the sweet girl next door who has grown into a remarkable woman.

Thi is the first book I have not been able to finish. I might have been able to stand it if it weren't so sappy. The love scenes were terrible and the action was weak. This was a waste of money and time.
