Ex-Navy SEAL John Clark is the newly named head of Rainbow, an international task force dedicated to combating terrorism. In a trial by fire, he must stop a terrorist group of men and women so extreme that their success could literally mean the end of life on earth as we know it.

Unless the narrator tells who just spoke you almost have no idea. It is as if someone who does not understand the language but can read the words is reading them. I will never purchase another book that has him as a narrator. It is a drugery to finish the book.

As a police launch speeds across Miami's Biscayne Bay - with officer Nestor Camacho on board - Tom Wolfe is off and running. Here is a big, panoramic story of the new America, as told by our master chronicler of the way we live now. Based on the same sort of detailed, on-scene, high-energy reporting that powered Tom Wolfe's previous best-selling novels, Back to Blood is another brilliant, spot-on, scrupulous, and often hilarious reckoning with our times.

I bought this book because of reviews and Lou Diamond Phillips who I think is excellent at reading. The story drags and the writer has the reader yell words to make sounds. Like when someone is speaking after each word or so he says slap. Which I took to mean a slapping noise in the background. Another example is when a character is about to say something and in mid sentence the reader yells axe. Then explains he cut off what he was saying. The story is supposed to be about crimes and a reporter and police officer according to the reviews. After 5 hours it had to gotten to the story.

Unless the narrator told you which character was speaking you would not know. There are so many good narrators out there why would they pick this one? You could barely tell the female characters from the male. No emotion just reading like you would get with a computer except different voice. I will not buy another book with this narrator.

Six years have passed since Jake Fisher watched Natalie, the love of his life, marry another man. Six years of hiding a broken heart by throwing himself into his career as a college professor. Six years of keeping his promise to leave Natalie alone, and six years of tortured dreams of her life with her new husband, Todd. But six years haven’t come close to extinguishing his feelings, and when Jake comes across Todd’s obituary, he can’t keep himself away from the funeral. There he gets the glimpse of Todd’s wife he’s hoping for...but she is not Natalie....

Against all odds we have made it into the last half of the 1990s. The Cold War looks solved, Arabs and Jews are talking, confrontation is on the wane. In this new harmony, one discord -- what becomes of unemployed terrorists?

I saw where some of the reviews said that the story had too many characters. I think the multiple story lines made the book all the better. It worked well as the book came together for the climax. In fsct, at the end I would sit in my car after arriving at my destination just to listen longer.

Everything starts somewhere. For elite military cop Jack Reacher, that somewhere was Carter Crossing, Mississippi, way back in 1997. A young woman is dead, and solid evidence points to a soldier at a nearby military base. But that soldier has powerful friends in Washington. Reacher is ordered undercover - to find out everything he can, to control the local police, and then to vanish. Reacher is a good soldier. But when he gets to Carter Crossing, he finds layers no one saw coming, and the investigation spins out of control. Local sheriff Elizabeth Deveraux has a thirst for justice - and an appetite for secrets.

I have purchsed numerous audiobooks. This is by far the worst I ahve ever pruchased. The narrator sounds like he is reading a documentary about rocks, air or something that bores him. The story drags. I am half way though the first half and have stopped listening. I am buying something else and the only reason I will remember the reader is to make sure I never buy a book with him again.

In this fast-paced story, a treacherous path from Scarpetta's past merges with the high tech highway she now finds herself on. We travel back to the beginning of her professional career, when she enlisted in the Air Force to pay off her medical school debt and found herself ensnared in a gruesome case of what seemed to be vicious, racially motivated hate crimes against two Americans in South Africa.
