I made it through to the end, but could really care less who lived, who died, or who did it. The characters are one-dimensional and the writing leaves much to be desired. I am a big fan of Twilight and was looking for something else. This wasn't it for me. Where Bella and Edward are emotional and deep, Sookie and Bill are predictable and boring. The narration did nothing to keep me drawn in. I think next I will listen to Twilight or Outlander again until I find the next thing to keep me engrossed.
Why would Donna Tartt narrate this herself? She has a southern accent narrating a book told by a college boy from California. A really poor choice.
I laughed, I gasped, I yelled...I recommend! This book was so intriguing on every level. The story was amazing with twists and turns everywhere. There was mystery, intrigue, great characters, and perfect narration. I was so grateful that I had traveling to do this week so I had lots of time to listen. I plowed through this book and plan to listen again soon.
I stuck with this book because of the reviews. It started off fine but I've never been more let down with an ending before and considering I spent over a month flogging through this enormous book, I feel very cheated.
There are so many loose threads dangling that I could pull any one of them and totally unravel a sweater.
It's amazing to me how a good series can become a great one. I like the Infernal Devices so much more than the first one and this book is infinitely better than Clockwork Angel. I gasped several times and actually had to put my hand over my mouth! The only bummer now is the wait for Clockwork Princess.
Like some other reviews, I don't understand the need for the two narrators. I found it sort of confusing and at some points I didn't know who was speaking the dialog. Still, a wonderful listen. Make sure you freshen up with Clockwork Angel first.
I stumbled onto this series during a special offer and it blew me away. I wound up listening to the entire 6 volume series in under two weeks. It's sexy, it's funny, and the characters are full of wonderful depth. I only wish I could listen again for the first time.
I loved the research that went into this book, but the narrator really dulled it down. There were so many instances of vampires that I found myself laughing with my new catch phrase, "It was a vampire." (you have to say this in the same voice as the narrator or else it isn't funny). The book got much better during the Civil War, but it takes too long to get there.
I have to say that I bailed on this book with two hours still left to go. It just didn't hold my interest. I really didn't care about any of the characters and while Harry was totally believable, this totally wasn't.
Absolutely gripping from the very beginning. This is a beautiful told ghost story that will keep you guessing until the end. Add to it the fantastic narration by both Bianca Amato and Jill Tanner and you'll find it impossible to not listen straight through to the end.
I stumbled upon Outlander when Audible ran a "start a series" special. I had no idea when I chose Outlander that I would be responsible for turning on so many people to this incredible series. I listened to the entire series (so far) in a row and simply couldn't stop. In fact, I bought the books so I could read when I couldn't listen and vice-versa! It is unfortunate that Audible doesn't have all the books unabridged. I had to get those from the library.
These books are a perfect blend of romance, history, and time travel.
