They call me the Spider. I'm the most feared assassin in the South -- when I'm not busy at the Pork Pit cooking up the best barbecue in Ashland. As a Stone elemental, I can hear everything from the whispers of the gravel beneath my feet to the vibrations of the soaring Appalachian Mountains above me. My Ice magic also comes in handy for making the occasional knife. But I don't use my powers on the job unless I absolutely have to. Call it professional pride.

I listen to lots of audio books and this one is top notch. It has something for every fan of fantasy/sci-fi books. The characters are interesting and well written. The narrator is superb. Being from the south, its nice to hear a southern drawl that isn't exaggerated and over done. I recommend this book to everyone. Loved this book and look forward to listening to more of the series.

I love this series so far. I was looking for something to fill in between DoW books. This fit well. I love stories with danger, mystery and lots of plot so this one fit in well. So here's the short version, if you like hard edged men with hearts of gold, bad guys that die in a pile of ash and really steamy seduction then you will love this series!
Its different for me to hear the story from a man's voice but that is the POV the story is written in. Most of the ones I've listened to have been narrated by women, especially the ones with steamy scenes like the ones in this book. But when a deep, purring male voice is needed Mr. Darcie does the job nicely. On the plot front there are plenty of characters to work with for lead male in the coming books. Also, the story lends to a fairly long series. I read the second book in the series on my Kindle and its amazing too. I am going to get Fury of Ice on audio too so I re-listen as many times as I want until the third story comes out. LOVE THIS SERIES!!!!!

Deep in the stacks of Oxford's Bodleian Library, young scholar Diana Bishop unwittingly calls up a bewitched alchemical manuscript in the course of her research. Descended from an old and distinguished line of witches, Diana wants nothing to do with sorcery; so after a furtive glance and a few notes, she banishes the book to the stacks. But her discovery sets a fantastical underworld stirring, and a horde of daemons, witches, and vampires soon descends upon the library.

Short and sweet, LOVED IT!!!! The author actually took everything I love about vampires and other supernatural areas, tossed in some wonderfully fun history and gave me my perfect book.
A non-stop read for those who enjoy vampires with souls and different times in history. Can't wait for Book 2!

Killing used to be my regular gig, after all. Gin Blanco, aka the Spider, assassin-for-hire. And I was very, very good at it. Now, I'm ready to make the one hit that truly matters: Mab Monroe, the dangerous Fire elemental who murdered my family when I was 13. Oh, I don't think the mission will be easy, but turns out it's a bit more problematic than expected. The bitch knows I'm coming for her. So now I'm up against the army of lethal bounty hunters Mab hired to track me down. She also put a price on my baby sister's head. Keeping Bria safe is my first priority.

Would you consider the audio edition of Spider's Revenge to be better than the print version?

I love paper, it speaks to my soul. However, when I don't have the time for my favorite books in print, audio is a very close second. I have only one of this series in print. Both versions are equally enjoyable. I think I prefer this series on audio though because I don't want stop the story and if I was reading I would have to mark my page & put the book down. With Audible I am able to listen & keep up with the story to the very last second. It is great!

What other book might you compare Spider's Revenge to and why?

this series compares to Kim Harrison's The Hollows series. Both are full of action and magic and all kinds of things that make the story more than interesting.

What does Lauren Fortgang bring to the story that you wouldn???t experience if you just read the book?

I really love Lauren's accent and I feel like I'm listening to a true Southerner telling me about last night's adventures. She's the finishing touch to a great story!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Not sure about a movie tag line. I'd have to think about that. There are so many juicy possibilities, I mean the title is pretty good by itself.

    Any additional comments?

A great series for anyone who likes a strong female lead and lots of page turning action that makes it hard to stop listening. Throw in just enough supernatural to make things really interesting and you've got one of the best series out right now.

"I'm Lexi Carmichael, geek extraordinaire. I spend my days stopping computer hackers at the National Security Agency. My nights? Those I spend avoiding my mother and eating cereal for dinner. Even though I work for a top-secret agency, I've never been in an exciting car chase, sipped a stirred (not shaken) martini, or shot a poison dart from an umbrella. Until today, that is, when two gun-toting thugs popped up in my life and my best friend disappeared."

    Overall

Great story, well paced, well narrated. It was serious in the right places and funny when appropriate. The espionage is light but not in a bad way. I don't like overdone romance and this had just enough to keep things interesting without being over the top. This was a fun listen and I can't wait for more by this author, hopefully continuing the characters in this story.
