Out of the stories heard in her childhood in Los Angeles's Chinatown and years of research, See has constructed this sweeping chronicle of her Chinese-American family, a work that takes in stories of racism and romance, entrepreneurial genius and domestic heartache, secret marriages and sibling rivalries, in a powerful history of two cultures meeting in a new world.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

More like a text book than a novel. Interesting, but I was looking more for a story.

Was On Gold Mountain worth the listening time?

    I didn't finish.

It is Nick and Amy Dunne's fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick's clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn't doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media - as well as Amy's fiercely doting parents - the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he's definitely bitter - but is he really a killer?

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Good no brainier. Not a favorite, lots more memorable books to read. But enjoyable.

Would you be willing to try another book from Jennifer Crusie? Why or why not?

    Probably.

Did Fast Women inspire you to do anything?

Only to think that the book should have a different name. I didn't think any of them were "fast".

In her beloved New York Times best sellers Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, Peony in Love, and, most recently, Shanghai Girls, Lisa See has brilliantly illuminated the potent bonds of mother love, romantic love, and love of country. Now, in her most powerful novel yet, she returns to these timeless themes, continuing the story of sisters Pearl and May from Shanghai Girls, and Pearl’s strong-willed 19-year-old daughter, Joy.

What made the experience of listening to Dreams of Joy the most enjoyable?

Wasn't predictable. I learned so much about history and life.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Pearl, even though she is so serious.

What about Janet Song’s performance did you like?

    Excellent! A pleasure to hear!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I certainly could of taken it at one time, but I liked breaking it into several days to digest what was happening to them. Lots to ponder!

What would have made The Marriage Bargain better?

Not trying to copy Fifty Shades of Grey. So transparent.

What was most disappointing about Jennifer Probst’s story?

Seemed thrown together to ride on Fifty's coat tails.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

    Nope.

Bernadette Fox is notorious. To her Microsoft-guru husband, she's a fearlessly opinionated partner; to fellow private-school mothers in Seattle, she's a disgrace; to design mavens, she's a revolutionary architect, and to 15-year-old Bee, she is a best friend and, simply, Mom.

Then Bernadette disappears. It began when Bee aced her report card and claimed her promised reward: a family trip to Antarctica. But Bernadette's intensifying allergy to Seattle - and people in general - has made her so agoraphobic that a virtual assistant in India now runs her most basic errands.

If you could sum up Where'd You Go, Bernadette in three words, what would they be?

    Funny! Different! More.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Bernadette is a classic! She has the nerve to do things I would love to do.

    Which scene was your favorite?

Of course, the blackberry vine incident!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

    Her visions about housing!

Single mother Callie has come to rely heavily on her best friend Suzy. But Callie suspects Suzy's life isn't as simple as it seems. It's time she pulled away - going back to work is just the first step towards rediscovering her old confidence. So why does she keep putting off telling Suzy about her new job? And who will care for her rather frail daughter, Rae, while she is gone?

What would have made The Playdate better?

The reader was too hard for my Texas ears to understand. I missed about half of the words.

Has The Playdate turned you off from other books in this genre?

The British accent was too much for me.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I could only pick up about half of her words.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointed. When I read about the book, it sounded like a good story. Maybe I should read it, instead of listening.

Stephanie Plum, Trenton, New Jersey's favorite pistol-packing, condom-carrying bounty hunter, is back and on the trail of a revenge-seeking waitress who's skipped bail. With the help of 73-year-old Grandma Mazur, ex-hooker Lula, a transvestite musician named Sally Sweet, and the all-too-hospitable, all-too-sexy Joe Morelli, Stephanie might just catch her woman.

America's favorite bounty hunter is back behind the wheel in her fifth hilarious, high-octane thriller. Out of bail skippers and rent money, Stephanie Plum strikes out on her own. Okay, so a scumball blows himself to bits on her first day of policing a crack house, and the sheik she was chauffeuring steals the limo. But hey, nobody's perfect.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I love Evanovich's series, but the narrarator is awful. I can't finish listening to her. The first 4 books were read by a wonderful narrarator and I was hooked. If I want to finish this one, I'll have to read it.
