"You will never think of wheat the same!"
Whole grains! Not what you think. Wheat is more than a fat inducer, an appetite stimulant, it's a contributor to many reversible ills that are quite common. This book does get a bit technical for the everyday reader. I was glad to read it as an audio book so I didn't have to figure out pronouncing the terms I am not familiar with. I found I got a great deal of useable information without understanding the chemical mechanics of Wheat.
"I could read it again!"
I loved his description of how our brains work. His experience is so well documented. I am grateful that Dr. Alexander wrote this and told how other people who have had this experience weren't believed even by Dr.'s like himself. Hopefully being in the profession, a few more Docs will start to listen to those who have been lucky enough to glimpse paradise but then had to return to finish the job! And Spread the word, that this is not-all there is.
"Finally a Great Story and a Great Narrator"
This book was recommended by a friend, I shall thank her later. She said Long Beach California was being encouraged to read it. That caught my attention, maybe a Long Beach Book Club, the Long Beach Grand Prix, I'm not sure. This is an amazing story, some parts were touching, some had me in tears. If you are a parent or love dogs this will touch your heart. If you are a car guy this is also for you. Some of the lines in the book are now on post-it notes on my desk. Yes, wisdom's are also in this amazing book. The narrator was spot on, well done. He was perfect for this book.
"Slow, Not a fan of the Narrator"
The story slogs on, the narrator is so annoying, which may have colored my experience of this writer. The narrator has a thoroughly irritating way to depict the female characters, halting and odd. I read a different book by this author, narrated by Grover Gardener-MUCH better. I'll try this writer one more time, without Dick Hill as the narrator.
"WOW!"
I'm so glad I read this book. A great piece of history, I now also get the jokes on the Daily Show referring to Shackleton, a side benefit. I have recommended this book to others, and they have enjoyed it also. Well written and Mr. Prebble is always great!
"Enjoyed a story of a principled man."
Very good story. The reader was very good also. As stated in the heading, the lead character shows integrity. I have recommended this book to others and they too have enjoyed it. This is a new Author for me, I will look for other books by him.
"Great Story"
Great story, and I learned a great deal about Aspergers Syndrome and how it would look in real life, three dimensional, verses a dictionary definition. I enjoyed the characters, and the story line. This author is new to me and I do believe I will have another listen
"Save your $$ and your time"
To me there are other books that are more inspiring about going to the next world and back. For my taste all the Bible quotes were off putting. I believe the next world is for everyone. Even without the quotes, it was just ok, yes her rescue was remarkable but.......
"Very well researched"
For my taste the book could have been shorter. More research than I needed, monkey experiments were tough to get through, theories from many other sources to back up the premise that the mind can change the brain. I did get a great deal out of the book and was then inspired to get a hypnosis book about the Mind changing the brain, by two different Doctors. It is good to know we are not "stuck" with the brain we have, we can make improvements.
"A treasure"
We have all heard the name Crazy Horse, after reading this I feel he is a true National Treasure. The history of the man and the Lakota people is just amazing. I'm glad my relatives weren't in America at that time. The soldiers were just despicable, as I am sure any war can bring out the worst in people. The research done was well done and interweaving it with things like the railroad coming in gave me more of a historical grounding of a time period. The Indian beliefs were so beautiful. It has prompted me to search for books about Indian wisdom's. The reader was excellent. I believe I could read it again
"Excellent"
I think having it in whisper sync would have been a good idea as there are tests the reader can take to test themselves and others. Very interesting. New and good information.
