Oaths sworn . . . loyalties tested . . . forces collide. Following the colossal battle against the Empire's warriors on the Burning Plains, Eragon and his dragon, Saphira, have narrowly escaped with their lives. Still there is more at hand for the Rider and his dragon, as Eragon finds himself bound by a tangle of promises he may not be able to keep.

Nice core story, but incredibly long-winded and overloaded with detail. My least favorite aspect however was the voice of Saphira. Instead of a dangerous, feminine voice I quite liked in the movie...we get a male rendition of the Sesame Street's Cookie Monster. I may make it thru this story as I went to a lot of work to burn the disks, etc....but this is just a 2 star story.

  • In the Heart of the Sea: The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 18 mins)

The ordeal of the whaleship Essex was an event as mythic in the 19th century as the sinking of the Titanic was in the 20th. In 1819, the Essex left Nantucket for the South Pacific with 20 crew members aboard. In the middle of the South Pacific the ship was rammed and sunk by an angry sperm whale. The crew drifted for more than 90 days in three tiny whaleboats, succumbing to weather, hunger, disease, and ultimately turning to drastic measures in the fight for survival.

Didn't care for the story line. I bought the audiobook on the strength on Philbrick's other work (Mayflower) which was fabulous. Incompetent whalers mucking about on the ocean. The narrator did nothing to enliven the strory for me. I made it through 2 disks and said enough. Sorry.
