Pike commits himself to protecting the girl, but when they immediately come under fire, he realizes someone is selling them out.

As the body count rises, Pike's biggest threat might come from the girl herself, a lost soul in the City of Angels, determined to destroy herself - unless Joe Pike can teach her the value of life...and love.

    "Great listen."

This was one of the best books that I have listened to in quite a while. The narrator is extremely good and makes the characters believable. The story had kept you interested and wasn't predictable like so many are.

A man with a painful past. A child with a doubtful future. And a shared journey toward healing for both their hearts... It begins on the shaded town square in a sleepy Southern town. A spirited seven-year-old has a brisk business at her lemonade stand. But the little girl’s pretty yellow dress can’t quite hide the ugly scar on her chest. The stranger understands more about it than he wants to admit. And the beat-up bread truck careening around the corner with its radio blaring is about to change the trajectory of both their lives.

Charles Martin has a way of making you feel like you are there and part of the characters. This book is just as good as Chasing Fire Flies, the characters are believable, the story touches your heart, you ride the emotional roller coaster of the lives of the characters. It brought tears to my eyes several times, I didn't want to stop listening. You can't go wrong with this book.

I grew up reading and watching westerns. I was very excited to get into this one but the narrator ruined it for me. Seriously he was the wrong guy for the job. He made the Faith sound whimpy, and I'm sorry folks but cowboys can be friendly but these guys were pathetic and it all came down to performance for me. I will try to find this book and read it, I really think that I will enjoy this book so much more by creating the voices and personalities in my head.
From what I could stand to listen to the story itself is good, but couldn't stand the voices.

The night after the fourth of July, Layton Carlson, Jr., of Red Wing, Minnesota, finally got lucky. And unlucky.

He’d picked the perfect spot to lose his virginity to his girlfriend, an abandoned farmyard in the middle of cornfields: nice, private, and quiet. The only problem was...something smelled bad - like, really bad. He mentioned it to a county deputy he knew, and when the cop took a look, he found a body stuffed down a cistern. And then another, and another. By the time Lucas Davenport was called in, the police were up to 15 bodies and counting.

Although I prefer Eric Conger as the narrator of John Sanford books, I think that Richard Ferrone does a good job. With that said this book was another in a long line of great stories by John Sanford. The twist at the end I didn't see coming at all. Great listen and well worth the credit.

Anna Moder has just witnessed a shooting, seen her car pulverized, and rescued a wounded stranger - only to discover he's really a werewolf. And by her recent standards, things are actually looking up. Lycanthropes don't faze Anna. Doctoring a wolf pack outside Grundy, Alaska, is the closest thing to home life she's known in years. But hitching a ride to Anchorage with long-absent pack member Caleb Graham - that's a risk. Part of her itches to whack his nose with a newspaper. The rest is trying unsuccessfully to keep her own paws off every delicious inch of him.

If I had to go into the wilderness I would want to go with Anna Pigeon. She is the ultimate kick butt heroine. She is not afraid to do what needs to be done even if it’s killing. She has the touch of crazy and at the same time you know she is sane enough to get through whatever situation she faces. I love the conversations with the dog. This book not only had Anna as a heroine but all the female characters were tough and gritty.

It begins with a call one snowy February night. Lying in her bed, young Sylvie Mason overhears her parents on the phone across the hall. This is not the first late-night call they have received, since her mother and father have an uncommon occupation: helping "haunted souls" find peace. And yet something in Sylvie senses that this call is different from the others, especially when they are lured to the old church on the outskirts of town.

The story line was just too farfetched to believe. To think there could be that many dense people in one area and all in the same book was too much to go with. I had some hope in the middle that it would pick up the pace and get better but it didn't
I will condense the book for you: Woman with secret in her past marries spineless man who won't stand up to bigot father. Woman sees crime, runs; enter clueless FBI, more boring story line, book ends in less than exciting finish. Reader kicks self for wasting time with such horrible story.

I love the Elvis Cole/Joe Pike books but the narrator on this one ruined the entire book for me. What kind of narrator pronounces word incorrectly??? I was going to let one mispronunciation go but when it kept happening with different words, it was too much. I couldn't even concentrate on the story. Honestly I don't understand why you would have multiple narrators for the same characters and story lines, it ruins the experience. Save yourself the agony read this book and avoid the audible version, its awful.
