Following years of lonely political exile in Western Europe, Ka, a middle-aged poet, returns to Istanbul to attend his mother's funeral. Only partly recognizing this place of his cultured, middle-class youth, he is even more disoriented by news of strange events in the wider country: a wave of suicides among girls forbidden to wear their head scarves at school.

I had to read this book for class and over all I found it to be ok. There are some moments of brilliants, but those are overshadowed by tedious dialog and unlikeable characters.

This is an amazing book. Its been awhile since I could get really excited about a series. The Emperor's Blades is outstanding in every way. Its very well written and is set in a sweeping and imaginative world. The characters are likable and surprisingly deep. The action in this book is both fantastic yet gritty and real. This book really grabbed me and got me swept up in the story. Overall, I think this is a must have.

Private detective Matt Scudder investigates a series of kidnappings that always end in brutal murder. Best-selling author Lawrence Block takes us into the seedier back alleys and side-streets of New York City, rendering his subject with a gritty realism.

A Walk Among the Tombstones by Lawrence Block is really an outstanding novel. Some of the settings and investigative techniques may be a little dated, but it really is an awesome read. The plot to this one will get you hooked and keep you there. The only draw back to this novel is that the narrator was indeed really bad. I would love to see this work redone with someone with more range and skill. Mark Hammer makes all the characters sound like their 80. The whole book seems like it was recorded in a nursing home, which is a shame because this one is really quite exceptional.

In that first volume, we were introduced to the remarkable world of Roshar, a world both alien and magical, where gigantic hurricane-like storms scour the surface every few days and life has adapted accordingly. Roshar is shared by humans and the enigmatic, humanoid Parshendi, with whom they are at war.

This is the first Thomas Harris book I have very read, and I have to admit it was amazing. I saw the movie Red Dragon years ago, but as usual the book was really so much better. I had no idea how much the show Hannibal, pulls from this one novel. The characters are deep and the author brings them to life. The work is full of insight and intellect. In short, this is a must read for everyone.

Firstly, I think this is a great but to get for anyone that you think needs to get themselves together and become motivated and dedicated to their own improvement. However, if your a person who already has themselves squared away then sadly this book has little to offer you. I think David Rutherford is really an awesome person and I listen to his podcasts and I subscribe to him on youtube. I bought this book to support him, but sadly I didn't get much out of it. I would get this book for a young man.

This Series is truly the dark horse in the sci-fi world and on audible as a whole. A deep and complex world filled with deep and complex characters. You can't really get ahead of this story. Another factor in this story is that you can never tell which characters are going to die and this series does rack up a body count. However, it does a great job of introducing new characters in way that week the story flowing. I love this series.
