While the story takes place in a small west country village in Britain, it could be anywhere. It certainly could be any community (especially if it has gates) in the United States. This is a book about class separation and distinctions, greed, poverty, lack of opportunity. It fits today's "me first, me only" attitude perfectly. If you are looking for a fairy tale you will not find it here. These people are not perfect, far from it. Not all unselfish efforts are rewarded, rarely in fact. Is that depressing, or is it reality? Anyone who has ever been involved in community affairs will quickly recognize these folks, flaws and all. Rowling's background clearly informs her writing in this book.

There is one death (out of a number) in the book that is very moving but I will not detail it as it would spoil the book.

Yes, but it's long, complex with many characters one of which has two names depending on the speaker. The book requires concentration.

If you have trouble understanding English, English this might be problematic. While it's not all that important you know what "rounders" is Rowling did not dumb down the authentic west country style of speech for the American market, a good thing. The "rough" language is plentiful and authentic.

If you give it a chance this book gives you much to think about and an opportunity to examine your own actions and attitudes in your community. Have any of us made our world a better place for others without a payoff for ourselves? Far too few I would imagine and I include myself in that.

There are plenty of Zombie books out there and it's not easy to set yourself apart. I enjoy the Tufo books because of the very well done element of humor. For some this might not work, but it's a very nice balance for me between gore and laughs.

Like all of this series almost the entire book is a first person narration and Sean has a voice that fits very well the lighter content of these books. At the same time he's more than capable of narrating the more dramatic and emotional moments which the books have as well.

It's not laugh out loud kind of book, more a chuckle to yourself kind of book. At the same time the protagonist has a full range of emotions. Laugh or cry, no, but the characters are endearing so there is an emotional bond. That said, it's a zombie book.

Good book and series if you like a lighter kind of zombie tale. The Tufo books are my favorites of the zombie books.

I can't imagine who would be drawn to this book. The "romance" novel aspects of the book are so off putting it's hard to imagine even the most enthusiastic romance novel fan finding anything to enjoy here.

I've enjoyed broad range on apocalyptic novels, from classics to modern day comedic novels but this book has gone somewhere I'd never imagined and it hurts the genre as far as I'm concerned. It will pass as I blot the book from my memory.

Lackluster and the material is such I doubt anyone could read this with a straight face.

NO! The women as the protagonists and one a lesbian and it all goes horribly off the tracks as it degenerates into a standard romance novel where women just need a good really hunky guy to make things right. The sex in this book is the scariest part.

Choose a genre... Romance or Zombie but for gods sake not both!
