"Not sure about this one"
Jenny Sterlin is a good narrator. I've enjoyed her performances of other novels.
The story was just o.k. It troubles me that someone can take and use the atmosphere and characters created and made famous by another author. It seems and feels like cheating. Too easy.
"Edgar's stories deserve a better reader better"
The reader. I'm a life long fan of Edgar Allan Poe's stories but could get past the first few minutes of a few stories before I gave up. The reader doesn't breathe life (or death) into any of the stories. Very disappointing. Give me Vincent Price any day.
"Another great King story"
Such a warm, beautiful story. I've seen the movie but I still got a lot out of listening to the book. The grace of the story and the audio presentation brought tears to my eyes by the end. Mr Jingles lives on...
"Great story and well read"
Really good story
If I could have fit it all into one day I would have listened in one sitting. The story and characters grab hold and don't let go. Really good story and the reader was very 'real' as though it was his story he was telling. I have no complaints.
"To be consumed in one sitting ..."
Really enjoyable. I wish I could have sat with a cup of tea and listened to the book start to finish. Stephen King is truly remarkable at capturing the subtle expressions and nuances of a place, time and characters. I could see them in my head, imagine them while she was reading. The reader's voice got a bit grating from time to time but nothing to keep me from listening; she was terrific!
"Another amazing listen!"
Kill Decision is frighteningly relevant. DS has a way of plugging into what I believe philosophically, politically and culturally. I've never found his characters shallow or flat, they have depth and texture. And the technology, the potential for use and misuse ... It's out there. DS is my number 1 author and Jeff Gurner is a great voice as reader of these exceptional novels.
"Enjoyable techno"
Took a while to catch on that we were in a post apocalyptic technoverse - good story. I found the readings and exchanges between the character and the librarian a bit boring, overly long and they didn't further the story. Still - a good listen. No comparison to Daniel Suarez's novels though.
"An American superman - not a lot of depth"
The story was good, interesting, well read. The lead character however was a typical American superman - a guy who looks awesome, knows everything, gets the girl, never gets hurt and is a killing machine. Boring and juvenile stock characters.
"Hard to put down"
Brilliant. To tell the story from the perspective of the child, his innocence preserved by his trapped mother was probably the only way the subject matter could be palatable. A fresh perspective, no less disturbing once you figure out what's really happening.
"Very satisfying conclusion"
Daemon and freedom tm were my first techno-thriller reads and I'm hooked! The way Suarez braids the threads of capitalism, fascism, security and liberty into the story both literally and figuratively kept my interest from start to finish. On to his next novel...
"Riveting!"
What an excellent story! I was disappointed at the end - to find the story over. I hope there's a sequel to this book.
