I really like Peter Hessler's writing and find it a true reflection of my experiences in China an a accurate account of Chinese attitudes. River Town was a great book and I enjoyed it..however, Country Driving, although a well written book is narrated by Peter Berkrot. He does zero justice to the work..remember the Public Service films about crawling under your desk for a nuclear attack....this guy has the same voice, inflection and makes it just about as exciting...pick it up at the library or bookstore but skip this version..
It was at best, okay. Kind of trite and predictable. I like his style but this kind of fell flat.
Characters. Not evolved or intriguing.
Everything I can. He's the reason I keep downloading McKinty's novels.
Question why I used a credit for it.
Kind of disappointed in this effort. Great narration but story....not so much.
The story is not only trite and tiresome the narration is perhaps the worst I've experienced. Perhaps better read that listened to I just couldn't take it...
Something that Will Sutton narrates...
Awful inflection, no ability to change voices and inept diction
Frustration at spending a credit for this book
As a reader and listener of Burke's novels I've eagerly awaited each new book in whatever series he has written. I'm a huge fan of Dave and Clete but I just heard too many story lines and similar characters in other books.
As usual, Will Patton's narration is spot on. I love each character and how he allows the writing to be the "voice", not his voice.
Worth listening to....yes....But not quite what I was hoping..
Too many similar characters from other novels
Dead on. I'd repurchase Burke's novels if he redid those done by Mark Hammer
I am a huge fan of Bill Bryson. His wit, his insights and style are amazing but this narration is disappointing. There is no depth or inflection...
The book. Read it and pass on this listen
Basically lik ehe read the phone book....boring
This is a great opportunity to use Audible's return policy
Not if this is any indication. Good story and characters but the ending..did I miss something?
The ending...If I was able to download the entire thing....what happened Audible?
No. Tried too hard..
Is this really the ending?
I am usually a fan of mystery type books, especially if there is mystery and well written. This offering is contrived, predictable and without merit....I'd pass...was almost impossible to finish...
I am a huge fan of Jeff and Michael Shaara, however I think this book falls a little short. Can't put my finger on it but I do love the other books...
I tried. I really tried. In the evening, in the morning and while driving...the story seems to be a good one but the narration is downright awful...I'll try this one from the library...
I have enjoyed several audio books by Nelson DeMille read by others but this has to be the worst audio book I have ever encountered. The narration is dull and flat and well suited to a high school shop text book....
Couldn't listen to it all....pass on this one..can I give it less than one star?
