I love these books and re-read them often. I decided to purchase an audio copy so that I could multi-task. The narrator however, is very disappointing. He is decent for the narration, but his accents & pronunciations are inconsistent, he mispronounces words and his vowels (git instead of get, for example) are awful. With a better narrator I would give it 5 stars.
Karen White does a great job mixing paranormal mystery and romance, and it was very satisfying to have some plot lines resolved while still leaving room for re-visiting Charleston and Tradd St. The characters are very enjoyable, although their emotions, actions, and reactions become a bit repetitive and therefore tedious. This is especially true of Melanie, although the author does her best to remind us that Melanie is in effect, trapped in adolescence.
The series makes you visualize and want to see Charleston. My husband and I spent several days there last summer, and I came home and listened to the entire series again, so I have eagerly been awaiting this one.
Aimee Bruneau perfectly captures the voices of Wells' characters.
I understand the criticism that this book tries to be too much (a coming of age story, as well as a thriller) but it didn't stop me from listening to it in record time. It's a good story and the narrator is also good.
I loved this book. The readers were excellent and the story was captivating. Part mystery, part romance, totally satisfying.
