Returning home from a trip to Paris, Boston medical examiner Maura Isles confronts a nightmarish scene. Police cruisers line her street and slumped in a car at the end of Maura's driveway is a dead woman, her head bloodied by a gunshot wound. Cops and neighbors gape at her as she approaches. Only when Maura looks at the victim does she understand why everyone is so shocked by her arrival. The dead woman looks exactly like Maura.

This is the 3rd book I've listened to of hers and this one was the best. It kept me on edge and looking over my shoulder.

Why we think it’s a great listen: The most celebrated performance in all of Audible’s history, The Help has nearly 2,000 5-star reviews from your fellow listeners. We hear the print book’s not bad, either. In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women - mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends - view one another.

    Overall

Never have I listened to such a great story. I tend to lean towards the detective stories but this book caught my eye with all the positive feedback. You will not be disappointed. Very touching, funny... It will be a book I listen to more than once!

Whether dueling with new forensics or the local old boys' network, irreverent defense attorney Andy Carpenter always leaves them awed with his biting wit and winning fourth-quarter game plan. But the fun stops the day Andy's dad, Paterson, New Jersey's legendary ex-DA, drops dead in front of him at a game in Yankee Stadium.

I was looking for a character I could follow in a series. After the disaster with Harlan Coben reading the most recent Myron Bolitar book, I was so happy to have found this author. Very similar humor and a great story line.

It's April, 1988, a month before Kinsey Millhone's 38th birthday, and she's alone in her office doing paperwork when a young man arrives unannounced. He has a preppy air about him and looks as if he'd be carded if he tried to buy booze, but Michael Sutton is 27, an unemployed college dropout. Twenty-one years earlier, a four-year-old girl disappeared, and a recent reference to her kidnapping has triggered a flood of memories.

BSquared67 says: "A brilliant departure from the familiar"
    "I've missed Kinsey Milhone!"
    Overall

I have to admit, I got a little tired of the series and stopped listening. This was a great book and made me realize how much I missed Kinsey! As a Santa Barbara (Theresa) native, now living in New Orleans, it is great to go back to my home town, even with the names changed. I spent a lot of time in Hope Ranch (Horton Revene). Great memories. Thanks.

At the old family manse in Louisiana, Special Agent Pendergast is putting to rest long-ignored possessions reminiscent of his wife Helen's tragic death, only to make a stunning - and dreadful - discovery. Helen had been mauled by an unusually large and vicious lion while they were big game hunting in Africa. But now, Pendergast learns that her rifle-her only protection from the beast-had been deliberately loaded with blanks. Who could have wanted Helen dead...and why?

    Snoodely says: "Intelligent, spooky thriller"
"Another great book in the series!"
    Overall

I really like Agent Pendergast's character. Living in New Orleans, it was fun to have part of the book take place in my neck of the woods. Can't wait for the next book to come out because the ending wasn't truly an ending...

The action begins six days after a series of explosions devastated Washington, D.C., targeting the National Counterterrorism Center and killing 185 people, including public officials and CIA employees. It was a bizarre act of extreme violence that called for extreme measures on the part of elite counterterrorism operative Mitch Rapp and his trusted team member, Mike Nash.

Jason J Preston says: "Another Outstandung Vince Flynn Book"
    "Another great book"
    Overall

I've listened to all of the Mitch Rapp books. Fast paced and enjoyable. I enjoy that he is not politically correct. Just out for what's best for the country. Go Mitch!!!

In the silent pre-dawn city hours - alone with his thoughts about Rina Lazarus, the woman he loves, 3,000 miles away in New York - L.A.P.D. detective Peter Decker finds a small child, abandoned and covered in blood that is not his. It is a sobering discovery, and a perplexing one, for nobody in the development where she was found steps forward to claim the little girl. Obsessed more deeply by this case than he imagined possible, Decker is determined to follow the scant clues to an answer.

    Kim says: "Milk and Honey"
"Just not a Faye Kellerman fan..."
    Overall

I love the character "Decker" but this book dragged on. I kept listening just to try to get my money's worth. Very boring. I think this is the second Faye Kellerman's book that I've disliked.

Leaving L.A.'s Parker Center, Shane Scully and his wife, Alexa, agree to meet at home in one hour. Shane gets there; Alexa doesn't. In the middle of the night, he's called to a crime scene on Mulholland Drive: The African-American victim, who appears to be a Crip gangbanger, has been executed gangland style. Shockingly, the body is in Alexa's car and her gun is found nearby. But Alexa is missing.

    Overall

I've enjoyed all the Shane Scully books and have to admit getting a little bit "misty eyed" at the end of this one. After several books, you get to know the characters so well. I hope there are more to come. And as always, Scott Brick is unmatchable!

    "I thought I missed something."
    Overall

This was a good book and I love the author but as I just finished listening to this book, I felt like I didn't download the whole thing. After reading a few other reviews, I guess I did. The author did not explain Brasher's death. I got the feeling her partner had something to do with it especially after he killed the bad guy...
