"Very Entertaining"
Honestly, I wonder about reviewers that download Sci-Fi titles yet apparently are not interested in the genre.
I really enjoyed this book and found it to be very fast moving. In fact, I had a lot of driving to do and listened straight through in the course of a couple days.
If you pay attention to the story, the movement from one time period to the other is effortless and effective. It is not at all confusing.
I really enjoyed this title and will look for more from this author. As usual, Scott Brick was amazing. Mr. Brick is by far my favorite reader.
"An excellent listen!"
I really enjoyed this book!! I am very interested in history, anthropology, geopolitics and other topics. Because of my broad interests, I found this book compelling on several levels.
Too many people are getting uptight as they are strangled by their varied perspectives to evaluate this book fairly. The fact is that it is not only plausible, it could happen today. The time line laid out was both scary and fascinating.
I found the writing, narration, technical accuracy and of this novel to be excellent. Also, as a former infantry officer I can say the author has an impressive understanding of land warfare.
Happy driving!!
"Great writing and excellent narration!!"
This was an outstanding title and extremely well done. You can really get lost in the sweep of 15th century Europe and feel like you were there, besieging Hafleur and later standing in the mud at Agincourt. The mix of historical facts with the fictional storyline was very well weaved together by the author.
The narration was so exciting that I actually wondered if different people were playing different roles. This guy isn't a narrator, he is an Actor in the finest sense of the word.
I really enjoyed this. If you like history and fiction, this is an excellent book.
"Very interesting book!"
I really enjoyed this title. Some may find the level of detail of the voyage and what occurred daunting, but to me it was just right.
It's hard to say just how the author does it (good writing perhaps..), but somehow you feel swept away as if you were part of the expedition. Some of the passages were so captivating that I feel like I have actual memories of the events as if I were there at the time.
If you want to know about this fascinating chapter of history that remains surprisingly obscure, you will enjoy this audio book.
"Perfect choice for travellers!"
If you are like me, you spend a lot of time traveling and look for titles that are a lengthy as you can find. In my view, if a title is well written and entertaining the longer the book the better!!
I have listened to both this book and its outstanding sequel. I could not possibly be more pleased in the writing or the narration.
Besides being entertaining, these books give a priceless look into the lives of medieval people of England. Having shared so much of their lives, I feel as if I am a former resident of Kingsbridge.
I give both this and the sequel 5 stars!!
"Well written, fast moving"
This is an interesting, high level overview of the war. Some excellent foxhole level vignettes of the fighting but overall this book is more about the war from the Division, Corps and Army level. I found this book to be very interesting. MacArthur looms large throughout and for the first time realized he was truly dysfunctional, not just misunderstood.
I would have liked to have seen more detail about Task Force Smith as that is always fascinating to hear about from a fresh point of view.
If you like modern military history, you will enjoy this book.
"Excellent book"
For those of you that are fascinated by history in general or the war on Terror and the American military's role in it; you will find this to be a wonderful book.
Authors and journalist these days get "a pass" by the public for filing their stories as if they have first hand experiences of the events. In fact, too much of what is written these days is composed in the comfort of a hotel based on interviews and gossip with the participants.
This book is the result of years of first hand experiences living with the troops that are on ground around the world fighting the War on Terror. It interleaves the day to day experiences of the soldiers and marines with a more global perspective that puts it all into context.
The author's attention to detail and ability to paint a picture of exotic places or a simple soldier's meal really took me away to my days as a trooper. You can practically see the tiredness in the soldier's eyes; you can hear the clatter of the gear as they walk, and you can smell the gun oil, dried sweat and the indescribable odor of ammunition.
