the narrarator is great. I've listened to Stephanie Laurens other audio books and enjoy them. However, this heroine got on my last nerve! She was so self-absorbed, so trivial and by the end of the book I was hoping she DIDN'T get the guy. She writes in her diary throughout the book and that was annoying. She seemed shallow and there was little character development/back story to her. The only reason I gave it an overall 3 stars is because Simon Prebble is very good. If I was reading this book, I would've put it down and moved onto another one.
With Styxx at a point. It just wanted to get him to stop brooding and actually lash out at Archeron and others. Nonetheless, it was a good story, kind of tarnished Archeron's squeaky good guy image a little which was surprising and added more depth to the story.
I feel like this should have been limited to one book. There isn't enough substance to take it as far as a trilogy. I'm really struggling to finish. I feel like there are sex scenes more than plot. It seems like the sex scenes are just stretching the story out longer and truthfully I'm not impressed with them. There is something to be said about minimizing the sex scenes to make them have more impact and meaning.
The first book was ok but now I'm just bored and ready to be done. Truthfully, I'm not sure if I'm going to finish or just fast forward through the scenes and Nicki is getting on my last nerve.
I have read Sylvia Day before. I'm unsure if it was the dialogue and lack of character development that was lacking or if it was the performance that didn't work for me. I felt like some of the character voices were amateur imitations of John Wayne, Jack Nicholson, etc. It became distracting. Once that started to click with me the dialogue was lost. Interestingly it was the male characters that bothered me the most. Usually with a male performer it is the female voices they have trouble with. In an effort to make all the male characters sound different, I think he fell back onto imitations. I wanted to like the characters but felt they were very underdeveloped. At some points I felt lost and uninterested. I did finish it but only after everything else in my library was already finished.
Hillary Huber does a good job on the male voices but her female voices come off as whiney to me. Mira's voice was grating on my nerves when she was a child in previous audio books and her voice as an adult doesn't differ from a child. She's suppose to be a bad*** warrior - but she whines. I felt like some of the narraration was sing-songy and it seemed kind of patterned. Hard to explain but I love this series and I had to push myself through some parts of this one.
I like the introduction of the new warriors and the direction the new series is going in. I was just disappointed in Kellan and Mira's story - I'd been looking forward to it. I also felt that
Kellan's story line of becoming a rebel leader and the reasons behind it to be weak and could've used more umph. Something was just lacking to me. There needs to be more meat behind Kellan's story. What the heck was he doing for the past 8 years and why didn't he just go to Lucan to begin with?! Doesn't make sense and I had trouble letting go of that question throughout the entire book. I would've like to have seen Mira be more of a warrior and Kellan to use better sense.
I'm interested enough in the series to check out the next one because I still have hopes that it will get better. I will probably read the book though instead of the audio because my issues with the audio kind of ruin it for me.
not sure. I think I'm tapped out. The cadance of her narraration seems to be predictable. She does a decent job expressing the male voices but the women really come off as weak.
I read this when it first came out and then waited patiently for the sequel, but I just couldn't wait anymore and needed to revisit it as an audio book and it did not disappoint. I love that they have two narrartors so you can better imagine the alpha males without the 'female' narrarators trying to do deep voices. That drives me crazy. Both performances were good.
Ryoden's quotes are awesome.
Yes. and then some.
Didn 't mind the ending but there was a part that felt a little 'off' to me. Without giving anything away, I was all into it until a big 'reveal' which was a little off to me.
I think she does a great job with the different voices and really makes me feel that there are different people playing those parts.
eh. Not sure. About 1/3 of the way in, Mairi (the heroine) really started to grate on my nerves. I understand she is suppose to be a tough guy but she came across arrogant and ignorant at the same time. To quick to act before thinking. It got old after awhile. If I was Connor I would have throttled her.
Again, it was ok. A little too sugary, sappy but ok. Can't give too much away.
A little monotonanous after awhile. Accents were ok.
Good series. I bought the next one in the series. I really enjoyed the first two - they weren't quite as predictable and a little more in depth.
I love the characters in this series - new ones are being introduced in each book so it keeps it fresh. The narrartor does a fantastic job keep the voices distinct and you can easily keep up with the dialogue. She really takes you into the story!
Bones - hands down! Ms. Frost gave him great dialogue and Ms. Gilbert gives him a great voice. I forget it is a woman talking!
I have listened to this series multiple times and definitely got my money's worth. I like paranormal but this also give romance and comedy and suspense. A little bit of everything!
Didn't care for the characters, seemed lacking. The plot seemed weak. Saw the ending from a mile away...
I prefer the Archangel series she has and was let down by this one. Not continuing the series. Can't put my finger on it, just didn't care for the plot. I really wanted to like it because I enjoyed her other series.
with this narrarator, definitely. She brings each character to life. I don't think I would have had the same impression of Bones without her! I never say that about a narrarator.
yes! Couldn't turn it off!
