Great way to read great books on the go. Love Sci Fi especially Orson Scott Card and Star Wars.

This landmark production, perhaps the most ambitious radio project ever attempted, began when Star Wars creator George Lucas donated the story rights to an NPR affiliate. Writer Brian Daley adapted the film's highly visual script to the special demands and unique possibilities of radio, creating a more richly textured tale with greater emphasis on character development.

    No I have not.

There's something fishy going on in the Unnatural Quarter. Bodies are floating face-down, the plumbing is backing up, and something smells rotten - even to a zombie detective like Dan Shamble. Diving into the slimy underbelly of a diabolical plot, Dan comes face-to-tentacles with an amphibious villain named Ah'Chulhu (to which the usual response is "Gesundheit!"). With his snap-happy gang of gator-guys - former pets flushed down the toilet - Ah'Chulhu wreaks havoc beneath the streets.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would still recommend this book as these characters are great fun. While this isn't the best installment in the series it continues to amuse and entertain and what more can you ask than that.

What other book might you compare Slimy Underbelly to and why?

I have heard it compared to the Jim Butcher Novels but cannot speak to that myself. In my experience it is somewhat similar to the Xanth novels in its tongue and cheek take on magic.

    Which scene was your favorite?

The final scene with Achooloo and his parents is just hilarious...and disturbing...and weird...and great!

If you could rename Slimy Underbelly, what would you call it?

    The Tentacles Awaken

In the secluded Dutch territory of Sleepy Hollow, nebbish schoolmaster Ichabod Crane competes with the town hero for the hand of Katrina Van Tassel, the 18-year-old daughter and sole child of a wealthy farmer. As Crane leaves a party at the Van Tassel's farm one autumn evening, he is pursued by the Headless Horseman, an apparition said to be the ghost of a Hessian trooper snuffed out by a stray cannonball.

About in the middle to lower half.

What other book might you compare Free: The Legend of Sleepy Hollow to and why?

This compares to most of the classics. Mostly a "picture in time" view of Colonial America.

Which character – as performed by Tom Mison – was your favorite?

The story does not have dialogue or allow for a performance of the characters.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

    No not particularly.

    Any additional comments?

Good free update of a readily available story.

What made the experience of listening to A New Dawn: Star Wars the most enjoyable?

Great job as always giving each character a unique voice...especially aliens.

What did you like best about this story?

John Jackson Miller does a great job making this story interesting without relying too heavily on the same tropes as always. Kanaan reaching for his saber and never igniting it was brilliant.

What does Marc Thompson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Great job as always giving each character a unique voice...especially aliens.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. Good flow and great sequences.

In "The Barbary Pirates" - the year is 1805, and Constitution battles Tripolitan Pirates to free the crew of the captured USS Philadelphia. In "Escape To The Wind", Constitution finds herself in the War of 1812, chased by a squadron of five British Warships.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Someone who enjoys poor radio performances.

Would you recommend The Adventures of Old Ironsides to your friends? Why or why not?

Nope. It is a good review of the story of the constitution but this is an example of poor radio performances gone worse.

How could the performance have been better?

Well, you would think an audio medium would use...oh, I don't know SOUND to tell a story.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Adventures of Old Ironsides?

The early stages with the ambassador and the new captain on board. BORING!

  • Dracula [Audible Edition]

The modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Most modern productions employ campiness or sound effects to try to bring back that gothic tension, but we've tried something different. By returning to Stoker's original storytelling structure - a series of letters and journal entries voiced by Jonathan Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, and other characters - with an all-star cast of narrators, we've sought to recapture its originally intended horror and power.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Dracula [Audible Edition]?

The ending as read by Tim Curry was intense!

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Excellent accents and viewpoints. Alan Cumming and Tim Curry alone would have made it spectacular.

Who was the most memorable character of Dracula [Audible Edition] and why?

Van Helsing, especially when Tim Curry was able to voice him.

    Any additional comments?

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would not. As a short story the plot pays off at the end. The begging however is quite consuming and literally just drops you into the action. More work on the front end would have made it more enjoyable.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Not really sure who the characters were. We didn't get a lot of introduction or insight into them.

Did Tim Gerard Reynolds do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

No. The voices were all pretty similar, especially the two "Main" characters.

Was FREE: The Jester (A Riyria Chronicles Tale) worth the listening time?

Not really, outside of earning time on the audible app.

    Any additional comments?

    Glad it was free.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

John Jackson Miller initially wrote this as a comic book story, an area where he excels. Jedi, isolated from the universe. The decision was then made to turn the script into a novel, and it delivers. This is a great look at Kenobi at his finest, balanced between being a warrior, diplomat, and trickster. Another fun thing is that Miller does tie all of the threads together. AS a reader of Star Wars novels and comics you will be screaming for the characters to put two and two together. Fantastic outing!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Kenobi was great, but "Plug Eye" was fantastic.

Which character – as performed by Jonathan Davis – was your favorite?

His performance as the Hutt accountant was really unique.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

It's kill or be killed in the space penitentiary that houses the galaxy’s worst criminals, where convicts face off in gladiatorial combat while an underworld gambling empire reaps the profits of the illicit blood sport. But the newest contender in this savage arena, as demonic to behold as he is deadly to challenge, is fighting for more than just survival. His do-or-die mission, for the dark masters he serves, is to capture the ultimate weapon: an object that will enable the Sith to conquer the galaxy.

If you could sum up Star Wars: Maul in three words, what would they be?

    Intense, dark, action.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Darth Maul of course takes the cake. This story really brings out the wide array of talents he possesses and really drives home why he is the most dangerous being in the galaxy.

Have you listened to any of Jonathan Davis’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

An excellent performance. He really evokes the dark nature of the story.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Parts of Schreiber's story are very...disturbing. He really evokes fear and darkness.

    Any additional comments?

Schreiber's stories are what I would expect from the EU. Something fun to read without feeling like this is the main story and where does it fit into cannon.
