"Toxic..."
how sad after so many years to develop scarpetta, her history and her stories, for cornwall to to turn her into a furious toxic, angry character and this book was like being jackhammered for hours upon end. i realized the story and the character were making me feel sick...in fact, every major character we have come to know over the decades has become toxic...quite a feat. no more cornwall for me.
"why audible needs to tell us when self published!"
AND apparently self REVIEWED....author compares self to Grisham. single worst quality recording...in a bathroom???...and narration EVER. DO NOT BE FOOLED. I have respect for authors who try to make their dreams come true, but I want to know when a book is self published so I can choose to make a decision. LISTEN TO SAMPLE before buying...
"buyer beware this ain't THE HELP!"
Best book since THE HELP???? Nuts! This is not literary fiction, a pleasant story in a nice locale with a gratuitous bit of hollywood that is a very small part of the overall plot and not particularly compelling. It IS better than lindsay lohan on lifetime:) but THE HELP?? Be aware that neither Sissy Spacek nor Octavia Spencer will be signing on for this one.Maybe the most misleading blurb I have ever seen on audible so just wanted to give fair warning (and I wanted to LOVE it)
"the best i have ever used"
Always skeptical, usually disappointed, have tried them all and am delightfully surprised by this simple, beautifully thought out listening experience that does not require headphones...will absolutely get more in the series and hope she has/does one on procrastination! But I didn't procrastinate about writing an appreciative review
"an irresistible series"
Ok maybe not five stars in the grander scheme of literature, but I have downloaded so many stinkers lately and rosenfelt and this delightful series never fail..remember when stuart woods was good? This series has that feel
"very good and an antidote to zombie silliness"
A good historical twist, a bit disburbing on the slavery issue if you want your lincoln unflawed, but a good listen. 'Nuff said
"cannibalism and mad cow epidemic...be forewarned"
Well written, depressing as hell, quite gruesome, informative in a depressing way, if this sounds like escapism to you, bon voyage!...however, terrific narrator...
"not a dopey talking dog mystery"
love dogs. hate dopey talking dog mysteries. rosenfelt's background in hollywood shows in this absolutely wonderful series. start at the beginning of the series if you can. and if you need a good story that doesn't pander but manages to make you feel better at the end, this is for you
"a return to the king with heart"
after dreamcatcher, i thought i would never read another novel by stephen king. this is the work of a lifetime, full of heat and soul and narrated brilliantly...settle in for a long, long ride but you will be enriched for it at the end
"read before using your credit"
Here is a sentence from the author's description of the female protagonist:
"Beneath her breasts, was the rest of her body."
. . .that should be warning enough.
"Pendergast fans beware"
i bought extra credits in order to be able to buy this the minute it came out, which i did with enormous excitement. it bears absolutely no resemblance to the quirky, arcane books i've come to love from the authors, being a perfectly fine but rather formulaic --- to be honest, extremely formulaic --- ex thief goes on a spy job kind of thing. i understand that authors want to blaze new territory but i feel as if not only my favorite characters, pendergast et al, but my favorite authors, are gone...if you are looking for anything resembling the pendergast books or even the earlier preston/child books, this isn't it. john glover is a wonderful narrator, by the way. try THE SHERLOCKIAN, which is just grand
