  • Best of Bryson City: Stories of a Doctor's First Years of Practice in the Smoky Mountains

Walt Larimore was a young "flatlander" physician with a wife and three-year-old daughter when he set up his first practice in the little mountain hamlet of Bryson City, North Carolina. Schooled in the latest medical technology, the eager doctor discovered that there were some things in rural practice for which medical school just hadn't prepared him. He found his patients were often his best teachers, and his classroom ranged from hospital corridors and smelly barns to homey kitchens and mountain streams.

Having knowledge of the area and people, this was a fairly accurate description of both. However, the narration is pretty cloying and self-promoting - to the point of distraction. I tried listening to this in car with family. They preferred country music.

Of more value to physicians and anthropologists interested in Western Carolina/Easter Tennessee ways of life. These are likely to dissappear over the next few decades as Boomer retirees move in.

  • Sex on the Brain: 12 Lessons to Enhance Your Love Life

As the largest and most sensitive sexual organ in the body, a healthy human brain enhances your sex life and heightens sensation. A troubled brain, however, makes emotional and physical connection with others difficult. So forget the implants, the fad diets, and the pills. Learning about this intriguing and sexy organ is the key to your sexual satisfaction.

    "What is this book about?"
    Overall

This book varies between self-promotion and tiresome list reading. It fails to help apply what is known about sex, neuroendocrinology and psychiatry. It almost makes sex a boring topic.

    Nah, it succeeds at that.

I suggest She Comes First as a better example of applied clinical science to aid human sexual relationships.
