"Vintage Sophie"
I'm comparing all of the Sophie Katz mysteries and this is one of the best storylines of the bunch. I also like the progression of the characters.
I don't want to be a spoiler but I love when Sophie makes assumptions before she has all the facts but always ends up in the right place.
Gabra does a fantastic job distinguishing the characters. She gets you to care about them and what's going on in their lives individually and collectively.
I wouldn't
I stumbled onto this series and I eagerly await the next installment. Kyra Davis is a writer that should not be passed on. I could easily see this on TV or in the movies. Not network though, cable.
"Classic Spenser!"
I love anything Spenser.
I like Joe Mantegna as the narrator
Joe brings each character to life. He changes inflections appropriately.
Not really
I always love the relationship with Spenser and Susan. I like that she had a more prominant role in this book. Since Mr. Parker is gone, we have to savor what he's left us.
"The camel club is at it again!"
I've read all of the Camel Club books. This book has a riveting storyline. Some additional characters are added to the mix to make it more interesting. You also get more clarification on Oliver Stone. I won't give away any plots, just get the book. You will not be dissappointed.
"Great Story.........Misleading title"
This was a great way to tell this period story through Alex Cross' character. However, it should have been titled differently. That's why I couldn't give 5 stars overall. The narrator was very good and the story had me on the edge a few times. Like "The Help", this was an uncomfortable time and even though this is fiction, it draws on real life situations of the time. Read the synopsis first before you buy it. Be prepared to see things another way.
"Not bad"
I started this series on a whim and because I wanted to see if Samuel L. Jackson was a good narrator. Well........he's great! I enjoyed the story line as well. Looking forward to the next book with another one of my favorite narrators, Dion Graham.
Dion, you've got some big shoes to fill!
"I really tried"
Maybe by Alex not by Lisette.
The ends tied up nicely
The way Ms. Lecat pronounced the names of the characters got in the way of listening to the story. I'm sure that she was taking into consideration the dialect but I had a hard time listening and grabbing onto the story.
I've seen the show on HBO with Jill Scott. That's what made me look for the books.
Find another narrator
"Love this detective!"
Always like audio.
Michael Bennett. He is a no nonsense guy but also has compassion.
I LOVE the way Bobby Cannavale performs Michael Bennett. Much better than Joe Castenegra.
Both
Looking forward to the next book in this series.
"Mr. Patterson does not disappoint."
Yes, the story was engaging and moved nicely.
Catch me if you can
When we found out the identity of the ghost.
Would like to see this as a series.
"Started off good but......"
I've been a fan of Millner and Chiles before they started writing novels. I've always enjoyed the he/she style of their writing. I was prepared to be throroughly entertained with this book. And I was for about half of the book. The story is basic and predictable but Denene and Nick have a way of making the predictable, funny and engaging.
I was enjoying the book when boom! It was over! I felt slighted. Sometimes when you watch movies, you expect for things not to always be resolved, so you go and read the book. Well I felt like this book was the movie. I was left hanging. I started searching for part two (because I was listening to the audio book) but I was already on part two. I then thought, there has to be another book but could not find one.
This book leaves a lot of loose ends. No prologue, nothing. I was dissappointed. I really hope that the authors think about doing a follow up to continue and complete the story. It's a book, it can be as long as you need it to be, not a movie.
"Fell in Love with Gene Engene"
I started this series on a whim and fell in love with JP's long time narrator Gene Engene. While the story is good, it was difficult for me to listen to a JP Beaumont book and not hear Gene. Also, there were some inconsistencies in the storyline. Specifically in regard to Rosemary Peters. I'm not sure I will finish the series out.
