In The Kid, best-selling author Sapphire tells the electrifying story of Abdul Jones, the son of Push's unforgettable heroine, Precious. A story of body and spirit, rooted in the hungers of flesh and of the soul, The Kid brings us deep into the interior life of Abdul Jones. We meet him at age nine, on the day of his mother's funeral.

What did you like best about The Kid? What did you like least?

THE KID...OMG WAS CRAZYwe start from him at mom PRECIOUS ( from PUSH) homegoing. He was 9 years old. He was a boy from a HIV who become a strong black young mom. ABDUL was a wildchild. From house to house school( Catholic orphanage) to the street...from boy to manhood...from unspeakable violence.Abdul...was strong he never ever give up. With all the lies (or truth) that may have (*or not) have happened. Being took by men for their own selfish needs Omg was so sad. As a child that is all he learned....So n return that is what he did n return to others just trying to make it. WHAT I LOVE WAS....THE DANCE. HE LEARNED TO DANCE. I THINK THAT WAS WHAT SAVED HIM

Would you recommend The Kid to your friends? Why or why not?

yes n no....if u like Push than u would kinda like this book....Like me... I just wanted to know what happened to her n her child(ren)

Have you listened to any of Sapphire’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Did The Kid inspire you to do anything?

    LISTEN
    UNDERSTAND
LOOK WITHIN SOMEONE NOT JUST AT THEM

An electrifying first novel that shocks by its language, its circumstances, and its brutal honesty, Push recounts a young black street-girl's horrendous and redemptive journey through a Harlem inferno. For Precious Jones, 16 and pregnant with her father's child, miraculous hope appears, and the world begins to open up for her when a courageous, determined teacher bullies, cajoles, and inspires her to learn to read, to define her own feelings, and set them down in a diary.

I really enjoyed the book..it was better than the movie. I wish the movie would have shown more of the background. the book for more was powerful. It was a child becoming a woman. It was life for so many young women who was scared to talk n share. So with that being said PUSH...on for your dreams if Precious could do it so could u
