I hadn't read One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest in years, but it popped up as a featured book on audible with John Reilly as the reader and I couldn't resist. I'm so glad to have had the experience of listening to Mr. Reilly's fine performance of this fantastic book. I was completely and totally immersed in his world and my commute absolutely flew by. Even if you've read the book and seen the movie several times, do yourself a favor and download this audio version. You'll love it.
The narrator of this book made it. Seriously,he's spectacular. My favorite Grisham experience in a long time. This is not fine literature but very entertaining and a wonderful way to make a hard commute easier.
I loved the beginning of this book and really, really loved the end (it will surprise you -- I guarantee it). The middle was a bit draggy and I kept thinking that it was WAY longer than it needed to be. But overall this was an enjoyable story with beautiful writing that was well performed. And did I mention the ending will surprise you? Find out for yourself.
I was not so sure about this one, but decided to follow the recommendations and go ahead and use up a credit. I'm so glad I did, mostly because Eduardo Ballerini did such a great job as reader. He brought this world to life in such a vivid way and made the characters have such depth. I might have struggled to get into this book if I read it myself, but with Ballerini leading the way I loved the story and was sorry when it ended. Now I'm on a mission to listen to more books he reads.
It takes a lot to make me actually look forward to my commute, but this book and Craig Wasson did it. What an amazing talent Mr. Wasson is. The story is compelling to begin with, but Wasson's ability to pull the listener in is quite something. I'm not quite done with the book yet and will be so disappointed when it's over. That's saying quite a bit considering it is really, really long (downloaded in 4 parts). Highly recommended!
