No Ordinary Time describes how the isolationist and divided United States of 1940 was unified under the extraordinary leadership of Franklin Roosevelt to become the preeminent economic and military power in the world.

What did you like best about No Ordinary Time? What did you like least?

Doris Kearns Goodwin is a brilliant historian. That is what shone through when I read the book some time ago. However, Nelson Runger butchered her wonderful book. What was with his trying to speak like the actual characters? Those voices were poorly delivered.

I've only gotten to chapter 4 of the first part, but that "voice" he uses for every character is driving me crazy. They never alter, despite the character. He made Roosevelt (and every other character in the book) sound like country bunkins. PLEASE, re-do the recording and get Bob Walter to do it. He was brilliant in "The Presidents Club" and would do this fine book justice. I'd pay an additional $50 to hear his rendition.

Would you be willing to try another one of Nelson Runger’s performances?

    NEVER!

Do you think No Ordinary Time needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Doris is a genius when it comes to presidential history, but please find another performer. Nelson was a disaster.
