This was lots of fun as well as a good puzzle. I am just disappointed that there seem to be only four Royal Blood stories. Since I use audio books as a sleep aid, this book and the rest in the series are perfect for my purposes. They are not so grizzly as to keep me awake, but still keep my interest so that I can hardly wait to get back to listening.
I only wish that this was a novel rather than a novella since the only disappointing part of any of the Royal Spyness books is that they have to end. I would suggest that Ms Bowen write nothing but Royal Spyness books so that we could have several new ones every year.
As usual, the narration is perfect. I never tire of Kathrine Kellgren's voice.
This is definitely a girls book but I recommend it to any female listener who enjoys a good puzzle, an appealing, clever but accidental heroine and a luscious side kick.
This could have been so much more. Even with what I am sure the author thought were unique twists, it was so predictable. The narration was very uninspiring. I felt rather than giving each character his or her own special voice, the narrator was just reading aloud.
I won't try the other books in this series.
This had the potential to be a good story but it was so predictable that I guessed two of the three "secrets" long before they were revealed by the author. The characters were very stilted and unbelievable and the dialogue was so elementary that I felt I might be listening to the adventures of Flopsy, Mopsy and Cottontail. Part of that blame goes to the narrator who had a very annoying voice and sounded as though she was telling a story to a group of pre-schoolers. I just didn't enjoy this book at all.
I am speechless. I have always enjoyed Janet's books, even the somewhat bizarre "Wicked" series. But this one seems to be so contrived. The plot is unoriginal, the narration is poor, Lorelei King even makes a mistake, says "what--oh" and then reads it right. I have never heard that in an audio book before. I just didn't like anything about this book. But in order to be fair, I listened to the whole thing. It took me two tries to get it done.
The great Joan Hickson, marvelous as Miss Marple, was a very poor narrator. I could barely understand much of the book. Perhaps it was a case of age, but Miss Hickson sounded as though she had a mouthful of marbles.
Call me a hopeless romantic, it is true. I enjoyed this book very much and am lookiing for more by Ms Robards. I thought the narration was excellent. All in all, it did not disappoint.
I have all of the Royal Spyness books on audio. I have listened to them each about three times in the last year. They are fun, romantic, interesting and so darned enjoyable that I want to know when Ms. Bowen will be writing more. Does anyone know?
The narrator is fantastic--I love Belinda's voice and really, all of them. Her "Wallis Simpson" is hilarious.
This book was a disappointment. I really didn't lilke the narration which, at the very least, should have been done in a faux Italian accent. I certainly didn't like the gruesome aspects of the story. A really good writer can get the image across without using such graphic description. I would not buy any other books by this author or narrator. It was just not a good experience. I do feel that the publisher's description of the book was misleading.
I really enjoyed listening to this audio book. It followed the predictable formula for Janet's books, but I never tire of it. The mystery is interesting and the characters are fun. I can't wait for the next Evanovich book or the next collaboration. Lorelei King is just the best.
Nothing could help this book
very good voice
The writing was tedious, unfocused and pompous. The characters were ok, the naration was exceptional but nothing could save this book. I truly despised it. The story could have been told in about three sentences if one eliminated the garbage meandering of the author.
