"WOW!!"
wow, wow, wow. The miracle of reading is not knowing when you pick up a new author what you'll find inside. In an audible book the magic of the perfect voice mixed with a beautiful story is - well, magic. Loved this so much
"Enjoyed (Not however "Best Book of Year")"
Loved the history. Loved the narrator. A little bit violent in a sad, sad way. But the end? It was almost as if after 600 pages (give or take) the author was done, tired and ended it with "And so they lived happily ever after". Not that I don't love a happy ending but I found the very, very end a bit weird. In a good way.
"Was hoping for more - just OK"
I liked the characters and premise so will listen to more in this series if I get a chance. This wasn't a waste of time - just not great. Hopefully the series will "grow on me" which is sometimes the case.
"That's what I'm talking about!!"
You know when you really like a series and then you read an installment and it's "OK" and then maybe one is only "so-so" and you're like "Maybe I don't really love this series as much as I thought" ?.... Well, The Enemy totally cements my love affair with J. Reacher. So different than the others. So much detail into who and why and what he is. So funny and sad and jaw dropping surprising. So good.
"Not for me."
Sometimes I read or listen to fiction written for young people and even if it starts out an accident I enjoy it thoroughly. Two of my favorite "accidental" purchases are The Perks of Being a Wallflower and Skippy Dies. This story unfortunately doesn't fit into that category. Didn't enjoy, appreciate or empathize with the angst of the main characters though I'm sure lots of young(er) girls will.
"I love the concept"
As an ardent Sherlock Holmes fan I wanted to love this book!! However, this is a "OK" listen. Maybe next time?
"Well written, sort of painful, well performed"
I remember reading this right out of college (many years ago) but didn't really remember much about it - except the basic, unpalatable premise. It's not a very nice story but not without redemtion either. Claire Danes performs with a sort of flat affect that totally fits and yet you can still feel the underlying emotion. I think I liked this performance more than really ENJOYED it.
"Like a tall glass of sweet Southern tea"
This sweet book goes down easy!!! Jenna Lamia is the narrater and makes listening a joy. Her accents are spot on and never seem forced or overdone. Thoroughly enjoyable!
"More please!!"
Now that I've discovered Harry and the gang I'm gobbling them up faster than Jim Butcher can write. Write faster Jim Butcher!!!
"Pat Conroy - anywhere, anytime, anyhow"
I read EVERYTHING Pat Conroy writes - but listening to The Prince of Tides is a special treat. Gosh - that man has a way with words! Frank Muller's beautiful voice and use of all the different Southern accents adds just the right tone to this beautiful book.
