Caren Gray manages Belle Vie, a sprawling antebellum plantation that sits between Baton Rouge and New Orleans, where the past and the present coexist uneasily. The estate's owners have turned the place into an eerie tourist attraction, complete with full-dress re-enactments and carefully restored slave quarters. Outside the gates, a corporation with ambitious plans has been busy snapping up land from struggling families who have been growing sugar cane for generations, and now replacing local employees with illegal laborers. Tensions mount when the body of a female migrant worker is found in a shallow grave on the edge of the property.

If you could sum up The Cutting Season in three words, what would they be?

Historical, slight suspenseful, Based in South

What did you like best about this story?

The historical aspect of the Pre-Civil war house, how buildings on plantation were set up. Mindset of writing from slave perspective, strong female main character. I'm glad I used a credit on the book instead of buying it out of cycle.

What aspect of Quincy Tyler Bernstine’s performance would you have changed?

Too much feedback on some of the words spoken

If you could take any character from The Cutting Season out to dinner, who would it be and why?

The cook because she had the whole life story of the house and it's deep secrets since she was old and lived there all her life

    Any additional comments?

I expected the book to be better based on other comments. It was not very suspenseful which book was advertised as, certainly not a top suspense writer like Rollins, Patterson, Coulter etc.

In this final book of the 299 Days series, The 43 Colonels celebrates the many "ordinary" men and women who did extraordinary things during and after the Collapse. Set in the chambers of the New Washington Legislature during a joint session of the House and Senate, Governor Ben Trenton honors Colonel Grant Matson and 42 other individuals who helped start the Restoration.

All the other books in series were great and informative. But this last book was a disappointment, it's was boring listening to all the long stories on who did what for the Patriots. Speeches too long and Ben adding his part every time. I was expecting a better ending.
