"A little jumpy"
I thoroughly enjoyed this work.
Thorough is the key word here and the author treats all the CIA's misdeeds thoroughly. Clearly, in the author's opinion there are very few CIA success stories to relate. It is a long book and at times it became a bit tedious - still worthwhile.
My one complaint would be (as another reviewer mentioned) that the author has a tendency to jump from one event to another - both temporally and geographically. This can be confusing as a listener unless you are paying very close attention. Even then, it can catch you off guard.
"What a warrior is"
Bravado, brotherhood, teamwork, and testosterone - clearly four traits that create serious soldiers.
This is a gripping dive into a terrible story of a mission gone wrong and how valiantly the Navy Seals can and will fight.
The book focuses on the single mission but does little justice to the training required of Navy Seals. The portion of the book that focuses on the training does so by discussing the physical trials that Seals are required to endure. Unfortunately it gives little information or background on the academics and intellectual level of training e.g. language, culture, medical training etc. There's a reason that these guys are so self-sufficient, and it's not just their physical prowess.
Another downside of the book (IMO) is that the author essentially blames the liberal media for the failed mission. (You'll have to read it for this level of detail.)
Otherwise an exciting adventure story and insight into the culture that gives cover to the Taliban.
"A good listen"
Well researched and written for the non-lawyer in you, but still covers every legal point of view.
I never got bored during the listen, but must say that I did get "bogged down" a few times. Still it is well worth pushing through.
