Maybe it was the Shenanigans gift certificate that put her over the edge. When children's librarian and self-professed nice girl Jane Jameson is fired by her beastly boss and handed $25 in potato skins instead of a severance check, she goes on a bender that's sure to become Half Moon Hollow legend. On her way home, she's mistaken for a deer, shot, and left for dead.

Some of the writing was cute enough to make me smile and I did finish it. It didn't keep my attention very strongly, though.

Teri and Phil had never needed their own personal god. But when Phil is passed up for a promotion - again - it's time to take matters into their own hands. And look online. Choosing a god isn't as simple as you would think. There are too many choices; and they often have very hefty prices for their eternal devotion: blood, money, sacrifices, and vows of chastity. But then they find Luka, raccoon god of prosperity. All he wants is a small cut of their good fortune. Oh - and to crash on their couch for a few days.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

It was a clever idea; very clever in fact. It stayed shallow, though, and I don't know how that could have been changed.

Would you be willing to try another book from A. Lee Martinez? Why or why not?

    probably

Populations died in the most devastating plague to ravage the planet in the history of man. Billions are dead, leaving just a handful of people scattered across the world, struggling to live the lives they have left. Some chose to struggle with the land, scratching out a living on a piece of property and hoping to make it from one day through to the next. Others, the vigilantes and brigands, chose to prey on the survivors. They hunt, kill and torture those who want nothing more than to be left alone to live in peace.

Set against the colorful and magical backdrop of Ireland, The Grey Horse chronicles a time when the Irish people suffered under harsh English overlords who sought to destroy their culture and way of life. Into the Irish town of Carraroe, a magnificent, completely grey stallion appears. The horse brings with him the promise of better times and magical happenings, for he is actually the shape-shifted form of Ruairi MacEibhir, journeyed to a time of danger in order to win the hand of the woman he loves.

No, not better. In fact it made it run faster than I would have liked. It is not a big story but a very endearing one.

In the 20th century Earth sent probes, transmissions, and welcoming messages to the stars. Unfortunately, someone noticed. The Galactics arrived with their battle fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined their vast Empire. Swearing allegiance to our distant alien overlords wasn't the only requirement for survival. We also had to have something of value to trade, something that neighboring planets would pay their hard-earned credits to buy. As most of the local worlds were too civilized to have a proper army, the only valuable service Earth could provide came in the form of soldiers....

It was the end of World War II. FDR's New Deal had redefined American politics. Taxes were at an all-time high. The bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki had created a fear of total annihilation. The rise of secret government agencies and sanctions on business had many watching their backs. America's sense of freedom was diminishing... and many were desperate to take that freedom back.

Would you try another book from John Shirley and/or Jeffrey Kafer?

    maybe.

Could you see Bioshock: Rapture being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

    Absolutely.

    Any additional comments?

I really hate being led through my reviews. The problem with this book is that I couldn't finish it which means there was some reason it failed to hold my attention. I think there was a little too much information spoken instead of seen. And a bit too much repetition.

The new Discworld novel, the 40th in the series, sees the Disc's first train come steaming into town. Change is afoot in Ankh-Morpork. Discworld's first steam engine has arrived, and once again Moist von Lipwig finds himself with a new and challenging job.

What did you love best about Raising Steam?

I didn't love it. I liked it because it contained characters I care about and am interested in and I liked it because it provided the classic Pratchett humor. It lacked the something special something of his books contain; that Pratchett magic.

What did you like best about this story?

That I got to see more of Moist and got at least glimpses of other characters I love. Spike was both less of a charicature and more of a woman, that sort of thing.

No electricity. No running water. No food. No end in sight. If life as you knew it changed in an instant, would you be prepared? In A. American's first novel, Going Home, listeners were introduced to Morgan Carter, the resourceful, tough-as-nails survivalist who embarks on a treacherous 250-mile journey across Florida following the collapse of the nation's power grid. Now reunited with his loving wife and daughters in this follow-up to Going Home, Morgan knows that their happiness is fleeting, as the worst is yet to come.

Would you consider the audio edition of Surviving Home to be better than the print version?

    no idea

What other book might you compare Surviving Home to and why?

There is no other book like it.

Have you listened to any of Duke Fontaine’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

He was good, I felt he was the main character.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    yes.

    Any additional comments?

You would think due to the horrific situation that the book would be dark and grim but it was not. The main character was prepared to the extent that he was able to manage all the things thrown at him. It made it possible to feel secure in a very insecure environment.
