"Powerful"
The Kitchen House is a powerful novel that reminds the listener of the horrors of slavery in the south. The beauty, romance and glory of Gone with the Wind isn't realty. Kathleen Grissom does an excellent job of conveying that to the reader in her beautifully written account of life on a plantation as experienced by the slaves. Yes, it is a difficult listen at times but I found the courage of the workers in the Kitchen house to be uplifting and inspiring. I feel, The Kitchen House, is a must listen for all American's as it serves as a reminder of our past and offers an opportunity for each of us to count our blessings for the freedoms we embrace today thanks, in part, to those that suffered and shed blood on the rich soil of the old south.
"The next chapter in Beverly's Life..."
Astonished is an enjoyable listen. Having listened to Beverly's previous two audiobooks, I was looking forward to this next chapter in her life. Astonished didn't disappoint. I am a Catholic, Pro-life and vote my faith, therefor, I don't share some of Beverly's beliefs, but no matter. One doesn't have to share her views to enjoy this book. I applaud her ability to turn her faith to help carry a heavy cross no one should have to bear. For only with God is this truly possible, I think. Beverly doesn't wait in the shadows for life to happen. She travels down many different paths. Opens closed doors and seeks guidance and direction in her search for life. Most of us wake, go to work, come home, sleep and do it all over again the next day. Not Bev. So her life's journey makes for an interesting read. Beverly's sister did a beautiful job of bringing her printed words to life. Download this audiobook and you will not be disappointed.
"The rest of the story..."
I am a huge fan of the movie, Rudy. I watch it again and again. After Rudy passes under the goalpost and the credits begin to roll I am always inspired to take on the world . With the soundtrack still playing in my mind, I take stock of my own life and my dreams. I look at what I have achieved since I first viewed the movie. I wonder what has happened to Rudy and his family. I wondered if he continues to pursue his dreams or if he simply stopped dreaming after the lights dimmed on the movie set. This audiobook fills in all the blanks.
Rudy, couldn't have picked a better time to write this book. Today in the United States, the American Dream to succeed, is trampled on ever day. Young people see no hope to their future, have no faith, no work ethic and no dreams. This book is a powerful reminder that there is hope and with faith in God we can still achieve our dreams. It may take a little longer in these hard economic times. We may have to work a little harder and God may take us down a path or two we maybe didn't expect but, as with Rudy, miracles will happen as God has a plan for each one of us that we can't see. After all, God's gift to us is our talents and what we do with those talents is our gift back to Him. This audiobook reflects that at its very heart.
Rudy is still dreaming and still inspiring others to dream. This book captures a life before, during and after the cameras stopped rolling on that chilly day in Notre Dame stadium. Listen to this book yourself and gift it to anyone you know that needs inspiration. Especially to that young person who is drowning in social media or video games, substance abuse, has failing grades and is void of all direction. It isn't about Football but about setting and achieving your goals.
Daniel Butler has done an excellent job of bringing Rudy's words to live and you will find it a joy to listen to.
"Disappointing Listen."
The author writes of her weight loss journey that involved prepackaged shakes. My research show that Pauline is a spokesperson for the company, which probably influenced her success with the program. Had I known that, I wouldn't have downloaded the book. If you are looking for inspiration and life long nutritional success in the area of weight management, this isn't the book to listen to. If you just want to listen to a biography of a British actress read by the author with authentic British accent and dialect, this perhaps is for you. I did enjoy her voice and hearing about her life just not her choice of diet.
"The truth I have been looking for..."
Finally there is hope that I am not predestined to die from my genes. These doctors have the answers to a heather life and it is very simple... Just eat plants. If it means no heart disease, no diabetes, no cancer.... WOW, I'm in. Yes, I agree, this book will change your life it you follow their advice and eliminate animal products from your diet. A must listen for all. Enjoy.
"A Scientific and Spiritual Defense of Life"
This book is a scientific & spiritual defense of life. For most pro-abortion activists this book will be ignored... for to read the truth will make their life a lie but for those with doubts, this book is a must read. For the believer of all life is sacred, this book is an affirmation of their beliefs and gives armor in the ongoing war against human life.
"Worth the wait !!!!!"
Dorthea Lange and Walker Evans captured the great depression in images. John Steinbeck captured it in words. Dylan Baker does an excellent job of bringing Steinbeck???s beautiful words to life. The plight of the Joad family, which has become a pseudo family for all the victims of the dust bowl, is the touching reality of the dark days that our ancestors endured in the 1930s. In my opinion, The Grapes of Wrath is one of the greatest American works of literature and a classic that should be listened to by all. I have had this audio book on my wish list for 5 years. It was worth the wait. Audible you didn???t disappoint. Thank you.
"Thanks Audible..."
Bronson Pinchot does an excellent job of bringing this wonderful classic to life. I think Flannery O'conner would be proud of this reading. Thanks Audible. I hope you bring us more from this author.
"Thank you Miep Gies"
A must listen. A beautifully read, updated version of Anne Frank Remembered... words that will forever live in my heart. Thank you Miep for your courage and may God forever bless all those who made the ultimate sacrifice to hide the Jews during WWII. And thanks to Alison Leslie Gold for bringing Miep's story to us so that this horror of all horrors will never be forgotten.
"In Memory..."
In memory of Frank McCourt, I listened to this wonderful work of literature again this week. Frank McCourt was a talented writer and speaker that brought the realities of of an Irish Catholic childhood to life in Angela's Ashes. His perseverance amongst extreme poverty should be an inspiration to all. You will want to drop to your knees in thanksgiving for all you have after listening to this novel. If all young people were to listen to this novel, just think of what a different world it would be. I'll miss you Frankie... Rest in peace.
