Well, i didn't study Middle English and didn't realize this audiobook wasn't in English. Audible needs to be specific about this kind of thing. The whole experience was brutal.
Sinclair Lewis' Elmer Gantry was wonderfully portrayed by Anthony Heald. The despicable Brother/Reverend/Doctor Gantry tarnishes everyone he touches as he moves through his wretched life. Lewis displays his masterful talent and even pokes fun at himself.
Well, that was a premier waste of time. If there were only a rating of zero stars. The characters were never developed, the setting was never really described and the story line was never planned. This is a hoax. I will NEVER buy another of Wroblewski's books again!
Actually, this book starts out with a very interesting time-travel setup and sequence. The difference of life in the 18th versus the 20th century is enticing. However, it dissolves into such an unfocused, sappy thing that it becomes a burden. The only, let me repeat, the ONLY saving grace is the narrator, Davina Porter. Her voice characterizations are magnificent. Too bad they're wasted on this unbelievable, poorly conceived and executed tale.
What a lovely story! The scenes are brilliantly framed and marvelously read. I thoroughly enjoyed myself.
As social philosophy, Atlas Shrugged is a surprisingly well-expressed work that is incorporated into a compelling storyline. The author framed his arguments in such a way that every reader can understand. Moreover, the lessons learned can be applied to today's headlines, and will undoubtedly be applicable tomorow.
Although a popular book, I found it repetitive and tedious. The authors continued to pound the same key...that abortion has had a significant impact on US crime statistics. The first time, it was interesting and insightful. The second time, it was emphasis. Subsequent times, I began to question their motives.
Finally, the popularity of names for children sliced by demographics was worse than having a distinction witout a difference...it was absolutely boring and unnecessary.
