Hailed by critics as an American masterpiece, David McCullough's sweeping biography of Harry S. Truman captured the heart of the nation. The life and times of the 33rd president of the United States, Truman provides a deeply moving look at an extraordinary, singular American.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

If you don't care what Bess Truman's childhood home address was, get the abridged edition. This is a heavily detailed book, a documentary, not a story of Truman.

Would you ever listen to anything by David McCullough again?

Yes, because he is a well-noted biographer. That being said, unless it is about a subject in which I want to know the address of their spouse before marriage, I'll get the abridged version.

    Any additional comments?

Runger was slow, which added to the tedium of the excessive details in the book.

Our founding fathers worked hard to ensure that a small group of wealthy people would never dominate this country. Thomas Jefferson believed that our very democracy depends upon our ability to play referee to the game of business, protecting labor and the public good. But over the last 25 years, we've witnessed an undeclared war against the middle class.

Would you consider the audio edition of Screwed to be better than the print version?

They each have their benefits. Apples and oranges.

What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?

Hartmann is an incredible writer who knows his subjects well before attempting to write about them. He has a skill for taking a complex subject and explaining it in simple terms.

Which character – as performed by Anthony Heald – was your favorite?

    n/a

    Any additional comments?

This is the book I recommend to people who haven't a clue about the world economic crises, they only know they are angry. This book lets them know at whom they should direct that anger.
