Coffee Lover

This is the first novel in Rhys Bowen's Royal Spyness series and it is a jewel. Katherine Kellgren brings the characters to life and will have you laughing out loud. Not that there isn't suspense in plenty and some romantic interest as well. Audible has all of this series on the site now and if you haven't heard them, you are in for a major treat!

I adore Gervase Fen - my favorite in hardcopy or audiobook, being The Moving Toy Shop. In Buried for Pleasure , Gervase does not have the same madcap, eccentric behavior that sets him apart from other mortals so I can't say it elicited the same delight as Crispin's other books but I'd rather have Gervase Fen at less than 100% than most other protagonists at their best. I only wish Crispin (actually Robert Montgomery), had written more of these books. As to whether I enjoyed the audio or hardcopy more, I always prefer the audiobooks if the narrator is good as they bring the characters to life for me.

This is my first experience with Bird reading one of this series but I think he does a credible job.

No - I like to savor my Crispins - there are so few of them after all.

While I have read all of the hard-copy books in this series, Barbara Rosenblat's narration (as always) gives these titles a life of their own. I love the fact that each of these books takes place in a different part of the world (obviously well-researched) so even if the heroine is an American housewife, the stories take on an exotic flavor that is both interesting and light-hearted. In fact, the whole premise of a middle-aged woman becoming a CIA spy is so goofy as to make Mrs. Pollifax irresistible.

My all time Audible favorites which are in the same vein are: 1) Elizabeth Peters books (only those narrated by Ms Rosenblat) which I have listened to multiple, multiple times-to include Amelia Peabody Emerson, Vickie Bliss and Jacqueline Kirby, 2) Lauren Willig's Pink Carnation series (beautifully narrated by Kate Reading), and 3) Rhys Bowen's Royal Spyness series (also listened to more than once and incomparably narrated by Kate Kellgren). All of these titles have a similar combination of humor, occasional romance, and suspense that make them worthy of hearing again and again.

Barbara Rosenblat is my favorite narrator so I always enjoy her performances but I have to admit to loving those she does with a British accent, i.e., Amelia Peabody Emerson) the most. Her character delineation is without equal in my experience.

No - If I enjoy a book, I want to stretch out the experience.

A really good listen - well worth a credit!

Anyone who loves good British mystery , excellent character development, and a cracking good story, should enjoy this book very much. Well worth the download.

I always enjoy John Lee. He does not over dramatize his readings but manages to differentiate between the characters and is quite pleasant to listen to.

We need more! Flavia de Luce has stolen my heart. I have listened to the entire series and cannot wait for the next installment. Jayne Entwistle does an excellent job of narration. Be sure to listen to these in sequence as you will miss some of the more subtle nuances if you don't.

Patricia Wentworth was a contemporary of Agatha Christie but in fact, wrote her first successful mystery novels a few years before Christie published her first Miss Marple books. There are striking similarities in the two protagonists and if you love Miss Marple, you will no doubt love Miss Silver as well. Diana Bishop, as usual, does an outstanding job with the narration. I am a great fan of the "cozy" British mystery and find all of Patricia Wentworth's books to be great fun. I am thrilled that Audible is adding more of them all the time.

This was a lot of fun and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The story was somewhat predictable but was still amusing and the narrator did a fine job. I thought it was well worth a credit!

This was a lovely romp. At times it was laugh out loud funny but still kept you guessing till the end. If you are looking for fast action and edge of the seat suspense, this is not the book for you but if you want a gentle, comfortable mystery to while away your leisure hours, you can't go wrong with this title. I lived in India for several years and feel that Sam Dastor did an amazing job of narration. Tarquin Hall does a great job with character development and obviously understands the human condition that transcends cultural boundaries. I loved this book and hated to have it end.

I'll have another piece of that pie please! Seriously, this is the most delightful surprise. I wasn't expecting that much and in fact, put off listening until a few days ago and now I cannot bear for it to end. Jayne Entwistle is absolutely brilliant in her portrayal of Flavia and I am savoring every morsel of this debut novel. Looking forward to the next one in the series and praying that the author gives us lots more of Flavia.

I am a long-time fan of Patricia Wentworth and this story does not disappoint. Diana Bishop does a great job with the narration. I love all of the old British mysteries of this genre and they are becoming more and more scarce as I voraciously read or listen to all I can find. Keep these coming.

I have read and reread all of the Mrs. Pollifax books in hard copy and was thrilled to discover that not only had they come to Audible but that my favorite narrator of all time, Barbara Rosenblat, is reading them. As a senior myself, I can promise that my voice is not as young and resonant as it once was and I have no problem with Ms. Rosenblat's portrayal of the character. The listener needs to keep in mind that Mrs. Pollifax IS a senior and that is what makes her so "amazing". After all, the reason the CIA wanted her was because she is the perfect grandmotherly type. constantly caught up in everyone's troubles and heartaches and thus the most unlikely "spy" ever. This series is fun, exciting and well worth a listen. Try it - you'll like it!
