  • Testimony: A Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 27 mins)
    • By Anita Shreve
    • Narrated By Robert Petkoff, Eve Bianco, Ellen Archer
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

At a New England boarding school, a sex scandal is about to break. Even more shocking than the sexual acts themselves is the fact that they were caught on videotape. A Pandora's box of revelations, the tape triggers a chorus of voices - those of the men, women, teenagers, and parents involved in the scandal - that details the ways in which lives can be derailed or destroyed in one foolish moment.

    Robert says: "Required Reading"

If you like Anita Shreve, (and I do), you'll love this book. Very thought provoking, and has you finding sympathy with unlikely characters. I was really torn about my reactions to this book...Highly recommend it!

  • The Ice Limit

    • UNABRIDGED (16 hrs and 48 mins)
    • By Douglas Preston, Lincoln Child
    • Narrated By Scott Brick
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

The largest known meteorite has been discovered, entombed in the earth for millions of years on a frigid, desolate island off the southern tip of Chile. At four thousand tons, this treasure seems impossible to move. New York billionaire Palmer Lloyd is determined to have this incredible find for his new museum. Stocking a cargo ship with the finest scientists and engineers, he builds a flawless expedition. But from the first approach to the meteorite, people begin to die....

Lyn says: "Wonderful, Well researched, Page Turner"
    "Great Book! Terrible narrator!"
Would you consider the audio edition of The Ice Limit to be better than the print version?

No, but only because of the narrator. Can't stand the way he constantly tries to leave the sentences

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes, definitely! Loved the idea of finding something like this meteorite, and was never quite sure whether they would succeed in transporting it or not.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Scott Brick?

ANYONE! This is the second book I have listened to that was narrated by him, and I will never buy another book that he narrates. His cadence is so irritating that I just cannot tolerate it for another book.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No extreme reaction, but I really enjoyed it.

    Any additional comments?

Somebody please retire Scott Brick....please, please, please.....

  • Still Missing

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 6 mins)
    • By Chevy Stevens
    • Narrated By Angela Dawe
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

On the day she was abducted, Annie O’Sullivan, a 32-year-old Realtor, had three goals: sell a house, forget about a recent argument with her mother, and be on time for dinner with her ever-patient boyfriend. The open house is slow, but when her last visitor pulls up in a van as she’s about to leave, Annie thinks it just might be her lucky day after all.

Richard Delman says: "A singular voice; a horrendous story."

I was held captive (no pun intended) from beginning to end. I had to keep telling myself it was a "story" the whole way through. A few things bothered me though. I can't imagine that a woman who had had this happen to her would go jogging alone all the time, and the ending just never quite rang true with me. Still and all, I listened to it twice back to back--gut wrenching story.

  • The Endless Forest

    • UNABRIDGED (22 hrs and 48 mins)
    • By Sara Donati
    • Narrated By Kate Reading
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

The spring of 1824 is a challenging one for the inhabitants of Paradise N.Y. when a flood devastates the village. But for Nathaniel and Elizabeth Bonner, it's also a time of reunion as their children return from far-off places: Lily and her husband from Italy, and Martha Kirby, the Bonners ward, from Manhattan. Although Lily is nursing her own grief, it is Martha, fleeing a crushing humiliation, who brings with her trouble that will reverberate in all their lives.

Linda says: "Well Worth The Wait"
    "Great Book! Amazing Narrator!"

Kate Reading has to be one of the most talented narrators around. I could listen to her all day, and have! I've been a fan of the wilderness series for years, and love this book and thought the ending was good for such an amazing series. I'm really sad to see it end, though! The only thing I can find fault with, and that drove me nuts the whole book, was the "Birdie" character. I kept wanting to spank her--really annoying. Nobody would or should treat a 10 year old child like this or give her this much attention when there's a whole clan of kids! I realize the author was using her to tell parts of the story, but I'd rather she'd done it with an adult character--this drove me nuts! Otherwise, awesome series!

  • The True Confessions of a London Spank Daddy

    • UNABRIDGED (4 hrs and 16 mins)
    • By Peter Jones
    • Narrated By Christopher Taylor-Bennett
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Discover an underworld of sex, spanking and submission. A world where high-powered executives and cuddly mums go to be spanked, caned and disciplined. In this powerful and compelling book Peter reveals how his fetish was kindled by corporal punishment while still at school. How he struggled to contain it until, eventually, he discovered he was far from alone in London's vibrant, active sex scene.

    Jacquita says: "Interesting! Fun!"
    "Kind of Dumb..."

I found the narrator really annoying--sounded like he was eating most of the time. I thought this would be interesting, but it kind of left me "why?" at the end--I'm not actually sure if I finished it or not...

  • The Whiskey Rebellion

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 1 min)
    • By William Hogeland
    • Narrated By Simon Vance

A gripping and provocative tale of violence, alcohol, and taxes, The Whiskey Rebellion pits President George Washington and Secretary of the Treasury Alexander Hamilton against angry, armed settlers across the Appalachians. Unearthing a pungent segment of early American history long ignored by historians, William Hogeland brings to startling life the rebellion that decisively contributed to the establishment of federal authority.

Kismet says: "Great story and narration"
    "Good History Read!"

I bought this book because I live near Berlin, PA, which celebrates the Whiskey Rebellion every year. I wanted to find out what exactly Berlin's role was in this incident in history. As it turns out, they never really mentioned Berlin (pretty funny, actually) but I was spellbound by what I learned about the actual event, as well as the history of the time. Great read if you're a history buff!

  • The Appeal: First Chapter

    • UNABRIDGED (25 mins)
    • By John Grisham
    • Narrated By Michael Beck

This is the first chapter of John Grisham's new legal thriller, The Appeal. The full audiobook will be available here on January 29, 2008. In a crowded courtroom in Mississippi, a jury returns a shocking verdict against a chemical company accused of dumping toxic waste into a small town's water supply, causing the worst "cancer cluster" in history. The company appeals to the Mississippi Supreme Court, whose nine justices will one day either approve the verdict or reverse it.

    Sylvia says: "Must Read"
    "Good Book!"

This is the first John Grisham novel I bought from audible and I enjoyed listening to it as much as reading it. Great new way to enjoy Grisham!

Brian says: "Great production but navigation is lacking"
    "Awesome Book!"

I bought my 70 year old mother and aunt MP3 players for Christmas and bought this version of the Bible and loaded it for them. They absolutely loved it. The only complaint comes from my teenagers about their Grandma wearing ear plugs and an MP3 player all the time--says it makes them look bad! LOL!

  • The Pillars of the Earth

    • UNABRIDGED (40 hrs and 54 mins)
    • By Ken Follett
    • Narrated By John Lee
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Why we think it’s a great listen: Got 40 hours to kill? You’ll find the time when you start listening to Lee’s take on Follett’s epic – and widely celebrated – novel of 12th-century England. The Pillars of the Earth tells the story of Philip, prior of Kingsbridge, a devout and resourceful monk driven to build the greatest Gothic cathedral the world has known...of Tom, the mason who becomes his architect - a man divided in his soul...and of the beautiful, elusive Lady Aliena, haunted by a secret shame....

    CynNC says: "Captivating"
    "Loved this book!"

I loved this book--kept my interest the whole way through. Kind of reminded me of Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series. Could definitely tell it was written from a man's point of view though...!
