The town psychiatrist has decided to switch everybody in Pine Cove, California, from their normal antidepressants to placebos, so naturally - well, to be accurate, artificially - business is booming at the local blues bar. Trouble is, those lonely slide-guitar notes have also attracted a colossal sea beast named Steve with, shall we say, a thing for explosive oil tanker trucks.

Chris Robbins says: "Very funny, but perhaps not for everyone"
    "Super fun read!"

I really liked this book AND the narrating. Two thumbs up! I was apprehensive at first, but won't hesitate with the bizarre subjects moving forward. :-) I would totally recommend this book :-)

No one but Stephen King could tell this story about the darkness at the heart of the unknown and our compulsion to investigate the unexplained. With echoes of Dashiell Hammett's The Maltese Falcon and the work of Graham Greene, one of the world's great storytellers presents a surprising tale that explores the nature of mystery itself.

This isn't a typical Stephen King book. It's good... but in a "gets you thinkin'" kind of a way :-) Nothing supernatural about it.

It's June in Montreal, and Dr. Temperance Brennan, who has left a shaky marriage back home in North Carolina to take on the challenging assignment of Director of Forensic Anthropology for the province of Quebec, looks forward to a relaxing weekend in beautiful Quebec City. First, though, she must stop at a newly uncovered burial site in the heart of the city. The remains are probably old and only of archeological interest, but Tempe must make sure they're not a case for the police. One look at the decomposed and decapitated corpse, stored neatly in plastic bags, tells her she'll spend the weekend in the crime lab.

The narrator was good... but I did NOT enjoy her. She sounded like she smoked way too many cigarette's. Just not the voice I would put together with the character., Also... the way everything wrapped up at the end seemed very unrealistic to me. I was very disappointed. I don't think I'll read anymore from her.

From Charlaine Harris, the best-selling author who created Sookie Stackhouse and her world of Bon Temps, Louisiana, comes a darker locale - populated by more strangers than friends. But then, that's how the locals prefer it. Welcome to Midnight, Texas, a town with many boarded-up windows and few full-time inhabitants, located at the crossing of Witch Light Road and Davy Road. It' s a pretty standard dried-up western town.

I certainly didn't expect to be entertained by this book, nor was that my intention. My heart absolutely goes out to Michelle Knight. She never deserved the horror's she faced. Her faith and tenacity are incredibly inspiring and I wish nothing, but the best for her. Having said all of that I can't help but think if she had the "right" person helping her write her story that the message would have been more powerful. I was way more moved and got to know her better on 1 hour of the Dr. Phil show than I did reading this entire book. God bless her.

Stephen King returns to the characters and territory of one of his most popular novels ever, The Shining, in this instantly riveting novel about the now middle-aged Dan Torrance (the boy protagonist of The Shining) and the very special 12-year-old girl he must save from a tribe of murderous paranormals. This is an epic war between good and evil, a gory, glorious story that will thrill the millions of hyper-devoted fans of The Shining and wildly satisfy anyone new to the territory of this icon in the King canon.

In the fall of 1984, high school students Amanda Collier and Dawson Cole fell deeply, irrevocably in love. Though they were from opposite sides of the tracks, their love for one another seemed to defy the realities of life in the small town of Oriental, North Carolina. But as the summer of their senior year came to a close, unforeseen events would tear the young couple apart, setting them on radically divergent paths.

This is the first book I have read from Nicholas Sparks. WOW was I unimpressed. I could predict the plot for the ENTIRE book. It was painfully predictable. I couldn't sympathize with any of the characters, because they were just so pathetic. I would go along listeniung to the narration and think it wasn't bad then boom... I would get struck with the narrator trying to talk like a Southern woman and doing a really poor job of it. If you like this author I imagine all of his stuff is probably about the same.. and I did finish the book.... which says something... but I won't be reading anything else by this author.

In this touching work, four women—all writers—come together after a painful loss. Recently deceased Gabby Marshall leaves behind a letter asking her friends to complete her unfinished manuscript. Taking vacations from their own lives, the ladies settle at Gabby’s home and get to work.

The book was quite lovely. It was inspirational and reflective. Not a must read, but a "worth the read." However, the narration was awful. If she would have just stuck to one or two characters that would have been great, but the way she tried to do so many different characters was just too much. She failed miserably. Again, the book is a good "chick book" though. :-) I would recommend it. Just don't expect much from the narrator.
