The author seemed bent on impressing us with wordplay rather than plot or character development. Sadly, even George Guidall, an excellent narrator, could not keep me engaged.
Archer is my favorite living fiction author. So sad the marketing people decided to chop him up into bits and pieces. What next, selling books by the chapter? But then, I suppose this scheme would work well in magazines and tabloids. I'd be much happier to wait until the story is ready to be told in full. Please call me when it's ready.
For me, a total waste of a credit. Far too much medical jargon, far too little story. Very boring. Gave up after first hour.
Dead Or Alive is Dead On Arrival. Entertain me, Tom. Don't try to re-educate me on politics.
The narrator begins each line by stating the characters name then follows with a painfully boring reading of the line. This is the very worst narration of any audio book I have ever tried to listen to. I have no idea of the quality of the story. The reading was so distracting I gave up early on.
The storyline was, at best, shaky. The characters lacked believability. The narrator was terrible. Had I read comments about this narrator's other readings beforehand I could have avoided wasting my time and money. He does a truly dreadful job.
No reader/listener should have to work so hard to try get into a story. I gave it my best. But as hard as I tried, this one was a dud.
I gave up after a very boring 45 minutes.
A thoroughly enjoyable listen. Masterful storytelling. Another favorite author, JG, should take note of how Archer, in his latest tale, fully develops his characters and certainly does not let us down at the climax. Intriguing plot. Excellent narration. Best savor the twisty ending for a day or two before listening, if you must, to the author's exceedingly immodest interview.
I’ve enjoyed everything Grisham has written, until now. I might have enjoyed this, but for the fact that I felt abandoned by the author. It truly is a book with an end, but not an ending.
In a word, this book is boring. After ten or eleven chapters I've simply given up. For those who stick it out, I hope it gets better.
