Here is the novel that will be forever considered a triumph of the imagination. Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Maud'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

    "Excellent Again!"
    Overall

I first read Dune the regular way in 1979, watched the 1984 movies and the SyFy minis 2000/2003. I started reading it again in 2006. I found this audio version even better than the reading and watching.

The actors/readers lend dimension to the scenes and characters that for me are missing from my personal reading of the book, the two versions of the 1984 movie and the various SyFy mini series.

The epigraphs by Princess Irulan are great as is the music that is featured at cetain times throughout the work.

Both my understanding and imagination are much better now making the listening a much better experience. I listen on two diff PMDs and a docking appliance with good speakers - a must in my opinion if you're not on the road.

Dune is a great story to be told and in the case of this version the story is told in a great way!

It is simply excellent - again.

Would you consider the audio edition of The $100 Startup to be better than the print version?

I have not read the print version, but intend to acquire it as the audio version appears to refer to useful tables in the print version. So, no, the print version is not necessarily better than the print version.

What did you like best about this story?

That successful businesses do not require debt, lost equity, or huge sums of money and that everyone knows how to do something.

What does Chris Guillebeau and Thomas Vincent Kelly bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Hearing the author read their own work removes most of the consideration of performance from the presentation, which is useful in a non-fiction work. The presentation is easier to consume.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I experienced no extreme reaction; no laughing, no crying

    Any additional comments?

This is a good book that contains, many useful ideas, hints, tips, and insights. It was worth the buy and listen and served to move me forward on creating the life I want. Also, it made me aware of the risk of buying a job, which is not what I want.

  • Fingerprints of the Gods: The Evidence of Earth's Lost Civilization

Using tools as varied as archaeo-astronomy, geology, and computer analysis of ancient myths, author Graham Hancock presents a compelling case to suggest that the story of mankind is far older than we have previously believed. And as the truth about prehistory and the real meaning of ancient myths and monuments is revealed, it becomes apparent that a warning has been handed down to us: a terrible cataclysm that afflicts the Earth at irregular intervals of time may be about to occur.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

The time was well spent as it piqued my interest in the full print version of the work.

What other book might you compare Fingerprints of the Gods to and why?

Chariots of the Gods due to similar content

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I did not observe any detraction owing to the narrator

Did Fingerprints of the Gods inspire you to do anything?

I am inspired to acquire and read the full edition of the book

    Any additional comments?

The abridged edition was too short and I found the continuity of the story suffered. I could not follow a line through the presentation. I found the subject matter fascinating and the narration good from a storytelling perspective; however, as stated, the abridged content rendered the whole experience less effective than it might otherwise have been were it unabridged.
