I will concur with reviewer Michael and others who claim this book is best suited for listeners with a strong interest/background in early U.S. History. I'm sure it's a great book so I'm giving it two stars with the caveat that the two stars rating only applies to losers like myself who have a limited knowledge of this era.
Great narrator as well.
Every five-star review of this audiobook is correct. While I wasn't a huge fan of the western genre before listening to this book, I must say I am more so now. Lee Horsely did such a great job narrating the voices for these characters that you felt like you really got to know them individually. I see the length of the book as a positive not a negative. By the end of the novel, you will feel sad that it's over - I guarantee it!
This audiobook is like listening to a stage production. The narrator really does a great job of squeezing every ounce of drama out of these stories. If you close your eyes it even sounds like Sideshow Bob is reading. Highly recommended!
Anathem was a fantastic trip that really had my imagination going. Sure, it's long, but if you pace yourself you won't get burnt out. My only small complaint is since I didn't have the book handy, I couldn't flip to the end and read the glossary whenever I wanted. Highly recommended to the geek elite.
If you're looking for something to listen to during long trips, this may not be the audiobook for you. I thought after about #50 that the "things white people like" had gotten a bit predictable.
This may be a good one to listen to during a 30 minute commute to work.
