Little slow at the start, and I also figured out the ending well in advance. I did like how the two stories finally came together, but all in all a fine book worth listening to. Just a note, I would have given this book 4 stars but midway though the book a different narrator takes over 2 of the characters, and then an hour later the old narrator returns, kind of ruined one of the most interesting parts of the book.

The Galactics arrived with their Battle fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined a vast Empire that spans the Milky Way. Our only worthwhile trade goods are our infamous mercenary legions, elite troops we sell to the highest alien bidder. In 2122 a lost colony expedition contacts Earth, surprising our government. Colonization is against Galactic Law, and Legion Varus is dispatched to the system to handle the situation. Earth gave them sealed orders, but Earth is 35 lightyears away.

The Rockhopper is nearing the end of its current mission cycle, and everyone is desperate for some much-needed R & R, when startling news arrives from Saturn: Janus, one of Saturn's ice moons, has inexplicably left its natural orbit and is now heading out of the solar system at high speed.

In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue - Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is - she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

Thought I would give this series a try since it sounded a bit in the area of Hunger Games. Its not on the same planet... So much time was spent on tris's emotions and feelings I wanted to puke. If your looking for more than maybe 2 min of action...skip this book.

In the 20th century Earth sent probes, transmissions, and welcoming messages to the stars. Unfortunately, someone noticed. The Galactics arrived with their battle fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined their vast Empire. Swearing allegiance to our distant alien overlords wasn't the only requirement for survival. We also had to have something of value to trade, something that neighboring planets would pay their hard-earned credits to buy. As most of the local worlds were too civilized to have a proper army, the only valuable service Earth could provide came in the form of soldiers....

First off I would like to say that I am a big fan of Mr. Sanderson. Other than the horrible final book of the Wheel of Time series he can do no wrong in my book. With that said...This book was AWESOME!! A bargain at twice the price! I am sure that we will be seeing a movie deal in the near future..it was that good.

One hundred years before Ender's Game, the aliens arrived on Earth with fire and death. Earth Afire by Orson Scott Card and Aaron Johnston is the story of the First Formic War. Victor Delgado beat the alien ship to Earth, but just barely. Not soon enough to convince skeptical governments that there was a threat. They didn’t believe that until space stations and ships and colonies went up in sudden flame. And when that happened, only Mazer Rackham and the Mobile Operations Police could move fast enough to meet the threat.

Wonderful narration, great story, loved the entire book UNTIL the last 10 seconds... I was so mad at this ending (or lack of) I had to look at my Ipod to see if I forgot to download something. Cliffhanger doesn't even come close to this non-ending!! No spoiler here but imagine watching star wars and right after Luke shoots the torpedo BUT before it goes down the hole the movie ends!! I will not be getting the next book unless Card prices it at a HUGE discount. I feel cheated...

At once wildly original and stuffed with irresistible nostalgia, Ready Player One is a spectacularly genre-busting, ambitious, and charming debut—part quest novel, part love story, and part virtual space opera set in a universe where spell-slinging mages battle giant Japanese robots, entire planets are inspired by Blade Runner, and flying DeLoreans achieve light speed.

Well the problem I have is that I buy these story collections because an author I like puts his name on it. Aside from one story having to do with the Iron Druid series the rest were no where near the quality of Mr. Hearne. As for that one Iron Druid story..some other narrator did Oberons voice...and it totally ruined the experience.

For a 2,000-year-old Druid, Atticus O’Sullivan is a pretty fast runner. Good thing, because he’s being chased by not one but two goddesses of the hunt - Artemis and Diana - for messing with one of their own. Dodging their slings and arrows, Atticus, Granuaile, and his wolfhound Oberon are making a mad dash across modern-day Europe to seek help from a friend of the Tuatha Dé Danann. His usual magical option of shifting planes is blocked, so instead of playing hide-and-seek, the game plan is...run like hell.
