"Seinfeld Meets Dragnet"
I had so much fun listening that I hated for it end.
The quirky characters earned my love right away. And for the plot there are some but while I do listen intently even rewind some. I know that this summer I'll be enjoying this novel again.
Ending is not what I liked but just may be a sequel is coming. Surely hope so!!
Rupert Degas is Brilliant
"Tedious and Boring"
I was truly hooked at the opening when Cassie was called to a murder scene to find the victim looked amazingly like her. And not only does the murdered woman look like her but also has the name of gal dreamed up by Cassie based on her past. Great!! What follows is a lot and lots more talking and more talking. All this gabbing and nothing ever happens.
Perhaps I've been spoiled with author's I've read/listened to in the past.
Finally my decision to cease listening after 8 hours I feel to be my best.
Sorry Tana
"Very Entertaining"
Rupert Degas is the very best narrator in the business. He has hundreds of voices which he uses to give voice to every character. No one sounds like the other.
This novel is about vampires and their tiffs. Yes there is violence but it can hardly be taken seriously especially in one scene the boyfriend thought he had killed her. Very soon after this ugly scene she pops out from bushes and let him know that he had killed her shadow.
I recommend this book to anyone 12yrs and over.
"Awesome Listen"
Lots of fun, murder mystery plus surprises.
Also enjoyed the narration of Adam Moore.
"Okay Bryce I Just Finished Fishing For Stars"
There is so much within this book that I know I will listen again this summer.
You know when I listen to a Bryce Courtenay novel they really don't seem to be stories. I feel as though I've sort of moved in with the characters. Humphrey Bower I'm sure plays a strong part in that feeling.
Yes there is mention of sex and violence but it's all done in good taste. And these subjects are not dwelt upon at any length at any rate.
And finally I'd recommend this book to anyone wanting better than just a good listen. I'm now in the position of yearning for his next penning. While waiting though I will absolutely take Fishing For Stars out again this summer. And enjoy the experience all over again. And it'll be like the first time.
I tend to relisten to all of Bryce Courtenay novels. The experience is usually better than the first time.
"Dissapointed"
I believe that I would have enjoyed this novel with a narrator that could give voice to each character. Pretty much every character has the same manner of speech in this novel. Many times I had no idea who was speaking.
"PICK ME PLEASE PICK ME WE'LL HAVE LOTS OF FUN"
Writing is great, narrator good, and character development meticulous.
Aside from all this within this novel you will find:
Love, Romance, Politics and Crime, Friendship, Deceit, Treachery and Intrigue must I not forget Crucial Decision Making, and Simple and direct Language.
I totally enjoyed this novel hated for it to end I had so much fun listening. I even learned something of Ireland. Do you have any idea what a Gravy Ring is? I do, got curious and looked it up online. You may find other things that pique your curiosity.
"Simply Wonderful"
I almost passed on this novel and glad I did not. Henry is married to Claire and he visits her at different stages of her life.
Within this novel there is humor, sensitive love and tenderness. Most of all the experience is beautiful within this story. And you begin to wish you could travel within time. It seems so very possible to attain this talent.
I found the narrators to be very very good and hope to find other books they narrate and the characters are from the beginning very well developed.
Come April I'll most likely be revisiting The Time Travelers Wife
"Where Are The Songs?"
This is a pleasant listen. You really don't have to pay much attention because there is no established story line. Characters aren't developed and neither is anything else.
I could not feel any of the emotions depicted. With other books I either laugh out loud or cry uncontrollably.
Another and final thing if you lose your place don't fret; you'll never know if you picked the wrong place.
"Very Dissapointed"
I was anxious to get into another Zadie Smith novel. This one just did do anything for me but to wish this done. After 1/3 of part two I quit.
Personally I feel that the narrator failed miserably
White Teeth in my mind is a masterpiece all the way around.
"A Masterpiece"
I first listened to The Thirteenth Tale last spring. Didn't think much of it till the end. Then I vowed to revisit and so glad I did. This novel is quiet and one must listen carefully.
Storyline is brilliant and narrators excellent. This novel tells of the lives of twins and the unconditional love that is between them. As for development of characters I found it solid and I cared for each one
I highly recommend this book. Thirteenth Tale will haunt me for a very long time.
