  • The Grand Design

    • UNABRIDGED (4 hrs and 32 mins)

    • Narrated By Steve West

The most fundamental questions about the origins of the universe and of life itself, once the province of philosophy, now occupy the territory where scientists, philosophers, and theologians meet—if only to disagree. In their new book, Stephen Hawking and Leonard Mlodinow present the most recent scientific thinking about the mysteries of the universe, in nontechnical language marked by both brilliance and simplicity.

Brandi says: "Hawking succeeds in mind-blowing physics, real"
    "disappointed"
    Overall

This book was surprisingly vague and uninformative. One Scientific American magazine about the multi-verse theory or a decent article about string theory would cover almost all the topics brought up in this book. Therefore, I would only recommend this book to people who have absolutely no prior exposure to the multi-verse theory.

  • The Prize: The Epic Quest for Oil, Money & Power

    • ABRIDGED (2 hrs and 51 mins)
    • By Daniel Yergin
    • Narrated By Bob Jamieson
    Overall
    (140)
    Performance
    (76)
    Story
    (78)

The Prize recounts the panoramic history of oil, and the struggle for wealth and power that has always surrounded oil. This struggle has shaken the world economy, dictated the outcome of wars, and transformed the destiny of men and nations. The Prize is as much a history of the 20th-century as of the oil industry itself.

    Randol says: "major let down"
"A scratch on the surface -but it looks deep."
    Overall

This book is a very concise and thoughtful representation of the oil industries goals and profit driven motives. However, I found the brevity to be a disappointment rather than a boon. I really enjoy the energy realm, the discoveries, and the politics. This was just a scratch on the surface when I probably would've preferred something a little more in-depth. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in the oil industry without very much prior exposure to the area.

  • This Time Is Different: Eight Centuries of Financial Folly

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 59 mins)
    • By Carmen Reinhart, Kenneth Rogoff
    • Narrated By Sean Pratt
    Overall
    (236)
    Performance
    (115)
    Story
    (111)

Throughout history, rich and poor countries alike have been lending, borrowing, crashing - and recovering -their way through an extraordinary range of financial crises. Each time, the experts have chimed, "this time is different" - claiming that the old rules of valuation no longer apply and that the new situation bears little similarity to past disasters. This book proves that premise wrong.

    D. Littman says: "necessary piece to understand the current crisis"
    "not a good audio book"
    Overall

I love the idea of this book. However, the charts and figures do not fit the format of an audio presentation. If you want to read this book I would highly recommend getting the physical entity.

  • Too Big to Fail

    • UNABRIDGED (21 hrs and 3 mins)
    • By Andrew Ross Sorkin
    • Narrated By William Hughes
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready
    Overall
    (1113)
    Performance
    (472)
    Story
    (475)

A real-life thriller about the most tumultuous period in America's financial history by an acclaimed New York Times reporter. Andrew Ross Sorkin delivers the first true, behind-the-scenes, moment-by-moment account of how the greatest financial crisis since the Great Depression developed into a global tsunami.

    Laura says: "Surprisingly Revealing"
    "informative and a little scary"
    Overall

it was hard to listen of this book. Almost every page infuriates you because it seems like huge decisions that affect you and your money are made on gut feeling and the whims of the large investment bankers. what's perhaps more frightening is the government officials who actually make policy and decisions in this matter are good friends with all of the investment bankers. The story is mostly about the human aspect of the financial crisis and doesn't really go into theory realm -which is a nice change from most of the books trying to explain what happened.

  • Speaker for the Dead

    • UNABRIDGED (14 hrs and 9 mins)
    • By Orson Scott Card
    • Narrated By David Birney, Stefan Rudnicki
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready
    Overall
    (7987)
    Performance
    (4470)
    Story
    (4522)

In the aftermath of his terrible war, Ender Wiggin disappeared, and a powerful voice arose: the Speaker for the Dead, who told the true story of the Bugger War. Now, long years later, a second alien race has been discovered by Portuguese colonists on the planet Lusitania. But again the aliens' ways are strange and frightening...again, humans die. And it is only the Speaker for the Dead, who is also Ender Wiggin the Xenocide, who has the courage to confront the mystery...and the truth.

    Joe says: "The Enderverse"
    "best book in the series!"
    Overall

The narrators of this book do a fantastic job of making the characters come to life. The different voices bring up the story and interaction better than a sole narrator. This book was my favorite of the Ender's game series. This book really has the ability to capture you and take you into the universe where Earth and humanity is not the central theme; even though, they are the central players.

Seconds before the Earth is demolished to make way for a galactic freeway, Arthur Dent is plucked off the planet by his friend Ford Prefect, a researcher for the revised edition of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy who, for the last 15 years, has been posing as an out-of-work actor.

John says: "HHTGH - Lightly Fried"
    "Always enjoyable"

I've read this book a few times and listening to it was just as enjoyable.
