Their Eyes Were Watching God, an American classic, is the luminous and haunting novel about Janie Crawford, a Southern Black woman in the 1930s, whose journey from a free-spirited girl to a woman of independence and substance has inspired writers and readers for close to 70 years.

If you could sum up Their Eyes Were Watching God in three words, what would they be?

    BEAUTIFUL LITERARY GIFT

Who was your favorite character and why?

TEA CAKE was my favorite character because he was the one person Janie had encountered in her life up to the point of meeting him that allowed her to develop into her authentic self. He wasn't ( but then who is ) perfect, yet he had no qualms about being who he was. He enjoyed the people in his community! He truly loved being around people and seeing them have fun and lots of laughter. This being so, despite the hard times and unsure future. He lived in the moment, and that was refreshing for me, the listener.

    Which scene was your favorite?

My favorite scene was when Janie's 2nd husband (Joe Starks ) shut her out of his life as he was dying and Janie refused to let him die without hearing her out, and explaining why she said the hurtful things to him she did. She wanted to apologize, also let him know that she didn't say the hurtful things for any reason other than reacting to the awful way he had treated her.
She truly wanted them to end things on a good note before he died. He denied he was dying, as he died in front of her. His denial, resentments, insecurities led him spend his last years angry and fearful.
His lived in such self-centered fear he was more willing to believe a witch doctor, who was only out for his money, rather than make peace with his wife, and allow Janie to provide his care. She had real concern for his genuine well being, and how sad he couldn't rid his resentments towards he, and die peacefully.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Hope, Courage, Joy, and Peace- One woman's journey to finding her authentic self.

    Any additional comments?

Highly recommend! Great Novel! SO much to learn and ponder within this amazing literary classic!

Mayberry is nothing less than sheer genius! All three books in this series were nonstop, sheer heart-pounding action! The unbelievably well described graphic horror was primo!
Des Fox was refreshing as the lead female protagonist. Mouth like a sailor. Tough, no nonsense and yet compassionate and caring. She pulled no punches and her authenticity made her one of my favorite characters throughout all 3 books.
The ending left me hanging so I’m hoping we will see another book in this series in the near future.

Excellent novella! I enjoyed the plot line, unfortunately when the action got started the book was over. :(
I knew this was a short one, and didn’t realize how much it would disappoint me to have it end quickly. Gotta stick with the full length Ledger’s to get my fill! To exciting a character to edit!
Pro: Great listen Con: Too Short.

Thomas Perry turns everything pens into sheer adrenaline pumping, heart pounding, riveting masterpieces! This, the newest release from Mr. Perry was a mixture of all the things we seek in books, and very rarely find all in one novel. This book is one of those anomalies which flawlessly intertwines the perfect mix of psychological, romance, hold on to your hats thrill rides, raises questions in regards to many of the characters, who are allusive and mysterious, leaving me questioning their motives. The mysteriousness combined with all the other facets meant I was not going anywhere I didn’t have to till I heard: audible hopes you have enjoyed this program.” That’s an understatement!
Invest a credit, you will be glad you did, and it will not disappoint! ( : 0 ] )

Charlie Beckham is a rising star among federal prosecutors until, on the morning of the most important court day of his career, a deranged homeless man turns Charlie's life upside with a single word. He calls Charlie by a secret nickname known by only one other person in the world - Charlie's brother Jake, who went missing thirteen years ago. Charlie has a hundred questions but the homeless man disappears before Charlie can ask a single one.

Charlie learned the true meaning of what the word “brother” means, not only from the selfless acts of love his blood brother showered him with, but more poignantly, when he had to put his faith and life in the hands of a complete stranger. The unlikely banding together of a federal prosecutor (Charlie) and a scary looking, unpredictable, dirty, homeless man (Bones), led to the forging of an unflappable bond. Being brothers is much more than sharing the same bloodline. They formed the ultimate “brotherhood” when the only person who had their backs was each other. #thick as thieves.

Would you listen to Beneath the Dark Ice again? Why?

I would absolutely listen again to this riveting, hold onto the seat of your pants masterpiece! The imagination involved in creating this thrill ride is unprecedented!

What did you like best about this story?

Anything went in the center of the earth. Just when I thought nothing could top the horror this handful of people could face... something does!

Which character – as performed by Sean Mangan – was your favorite?

I was fascinated by Alex Hunter's ability to keep his emotions at bay in the most stressful situations. His undaunted professional demeanor is the only thing which kept the scientists trudging along. His resolve was unflappable, and to say it was impressive is putting it mildly.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I got very emotional with the nonstop, unrelenting "surprises" from this netherworld. Things completely unfamiliar to the world as we know it would suddenly appear and do the most ghastly, unimaginable things. These would make my heart race and I would root for the characters to "MOVE IT!"

    Any additional comments?

Sheer genius! What a joy to listen... I am in awe of Mr. Beck.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!
PS: This is NOT for the feign of heart. It will get your heart pumping from the beginning and it won't slow to the VERY end.... This one is a MUST LISTEN, and WILL NOT Disappoint!

HYSTERICAL! Hiassen's satire is TRULY a work of art!
An author is at his/her best when they write based on their own experiences, thoughts and beliefs. Hiassen does this with a finesse only someone as talented as he is can.
Like a great chef who knows that putting the exact pinch of spice in his broth keeps customers returning, and that not getting it "just so" can make or break his business.
Hiassen seemingly tackles his craft with the same wizardry while crafting his next best seller... He masterfully expands on real life concerns/happenings and puts just the right amount of satirical twist throughput the novel ( not over or under done ) leaving (us) readers hungering for his next masterpiece. I've read (listened to) a lot of his novels and am never satiated.
Hiassen understands human nature, and this is what makes his brand of writing classical! It will be popular, and bring out numerous belly laughs for generations to come!
George Wilson brings a gifted voice and individuality to multiple characters throughout the story with undeniable talent.

Simple did a tremendous job showing us we are all human, & NO two journeys are the same.
We stumble, pick ourselves up, dust off and hold we grew insight and enough strength not to repeat our indiscretions. Sometimes, like expressed in a main character in this novel, we live the definition of insanity ( repeating the same thing over and over, and getting the same negative result.). Sometimes it takes some of us a little longer to figure this out. Every character in this book is authentic and ( like all of us ) an imperfect human being, searching for love, connections, and validation of their worth. That life is a journey of progress and learning, asking for forgiveness and forgiving. As long as keep moving forward, and looking for progress not perfection we're on the right path.
