Fannie Johnson has seen darn near all the world has to offer at her Thank the Lord Boarding House. It is home to a variety of interesting people who regard each other as family. One such is Sarah Jolene Tilman, who is ready to strike out on her own. In stark contrast, Richard Peterson has done more than his share of living and is looking for simpler pleasures. Under Fannie's watchful eye, each will embark on a path of self-exploration and find that life is nothing if not a wildly unpredictable journey.

This book is a huge waste of time and money...I gave it a good 2 hrs. before I let myself scrap it..shallow characters, mindless plot, I can't find one good thing to say...

More than 2,000 men, women, and children are on board. Here on the first-class promenade is millionaire John Jacob Astor, who hopes his return from Egypt with his pregnant teen bride will invite a minimum of media attention. And here, in the third-class common room, a beautiful Lebanese refugee, on her way to family in Florida, discovers first love. And there in the distance, shrouded in darkness, an ancient iceberg lies patient, awaiting its encounter.

This became a case of "I bought it and I'm darn well going to finish it'. I've listened to just about every Titanic book out there and this one was my least favorite. The evil talking iceberg was downright creepy. It never occurred to me that the iceeburg not only anticipated the collision with great pleasure, but also derived personal satisfaction in the deaths of the passengers. Each time the iceberg spoke I wanted it to be over with. The same goes for the obnoxious talking rat whose voice and words were annoyingly repetitive. The voices and words of the men in the mailroom bordered on annoying as well. Sorry to say I can't recommend.....

When Rebekah Kettle takes stock of her life, she isn't happy with what she finds. It's time to take action. She starts a relationship with a quirky paparazzo with whom she's suspiciously compatible, and she befriends an eccentric older woman who needs her companionship. It seems things are looking up. But, unexpectedly, Rebekah discovers that Mrs. Williams' apartment has a view straight into Arthur Weeman's town house, where she can watch the object of her obsession's life displayed like a silent movie.

Stephanie says: "takes awhile to get into, but enjoyed it."
    "Bizarre...."
    Overall

This book was bizarre..I couldn't finish it. The narrator reads the entire thing, or up to where i stopped, as if she's patiently explaining to a toddler why he can't have candy before dinner..it's a condescending slow process to listen to it! And she uses a baby voice...That combined with the total lack of direction made this really bizarre...

First seen in the critically acclaimed Match Me If You Can, Dean is trying to recover (both mentally and physically) from a shoulder injury by taking a road trip. Along the way he meets Blue, a beautiful woman down on her luck, and as they spend more time together their attraction grows.

This is yet another shallow plotless book ..if you enjoy characters defined by frequent descriptions of what they are wearing, or thoroughly predictable big strong guy saving not so pretty but also very predictable girl, this one is for you! I found it too boring to continue...

  • Roots: The Saga of an American Family

Why we think it’s a great listen: A masterpiece like none other, Brooks’ powerful performance of Haley’s words has been known to leave listeners in tears. It begins with a birth in an African village in 1750, and ends two centuries later at a funeral in Arkansas. And in that time span, an unforgettable cast of men, women, and children come to life, many of them based on the people from Alex Haley's own family tree.

    Kevin says: "Powerful"
    "Words can't express..."
    Overall

How incredible this story is. I wish it could be a mandatory read for older teens...There is so much to learn in it's pages. Avery Brooks is phenomenal..This is a story that will have you crying and laughing and wondering how these things could have happened. I did see the movie many years ago and can safely say the book goes deeper and tells the story in a much larger way... I'm not a writer and I don't have adequate words to express how wonderful this listen was...I can only highly recommend...

After about an hour of listening I was dismayed at having picked another "sleeper"...I stuck with it on principle and was very glad I did! It picked up and was very much worth the time. I highly recommend....I'm not going to elaborate further as the review above mine says much of what I would say...
