While not the best of Zahn's Star Wars books it is a good story, strong portrayal and fun listen. The narrator does a nice job with the story and the characters. It's a quick read and worth the time.
Compelling story with great narration. Heart wrenching account of why we must still fear Russia. Great life story even if you don't like Bill by the end.
I wasn't expecting such a fascinating story here but it really was. Excellent writing, well researched account of this incredible human achievement. The story of the initial failed attempt to create a canal by the French was especially appealing to read. Wow, what a spectacular failure in just about every way. Great narration as well.
The core concept in this book was great. Loved the lead character and the company founder but it sort of devolved into a typical mystery story. Too bad because the first half of the book had real promise. Oh well.
Great introduction to a new lead character. Very colorful characters throughout this book and a nice, compelling albeit lightweight story. A great little piece of entertainment for those of us who like mysteries.
Wow, fantastic account of our nuclear weapons program to date. But scary as can be in conveying how close we have come to total disaster so many times. The author does a fantastic job of telling the history of the program, the politics behind it and how congress, the culture of the times and budget battles have led us to where we are today. Really fantastic read that I recommend to anyone and everyone.
Wow, if I ever thought this was the career for me, this book changes that in a heartbeat. What an incredible story. The movie version of this story definitely amps up the emotion and scariness, which might help sell the story to an audience. The book looks back on the events with a bit more distance which helps to convey the events very clearly but somewhat with less scariness. Either that or Richard Phillips is way more courageous than I will ever be. He is calm, cool and collected pretty much throughout this book which is either amazing or distance from the actual events. Either way, this is a great, great story that is definitely worth reading. The performance by Wilson probably could have been more dramatic but overall I'd recommend it. And I definitely recommend the movie. Well worth the Best Picture nod it got.
I certainly appreciate this book, the great narrator and the reality it conveys. But the way it is written and read, doesn't convey the emotion, the heartbreak or the appaul that I'm sure was key to this reality. The movie does a much better job of getting all of this across. And the movie pretty much stuck to the book which is a rarity. I do recommend reading the book before seeing the movie but this definitely could have been so much better.
The best part of this book is the forward by Carol Burnett who captures the real artist and clearly conveys her passion and love for someone I think was one of the greatest improv comedians we've ever seen.
After that the book (which is NOT narrated by Tim) falls into classic Dick Hill territory. Somewhat arrogant, definitely not funny and sometimes boring account of a guy who might off stage have been a bit of a shell of his on-stage persona, if you take away the characterization of this narration. I have a feeling that if Conway had narrated, or if I had read it instead of listening, I would have enjoyed much more.
Don't waste your credits or money on this one. Get the physical book.
This is rich material that really could have been presented better. I thought the account of MLK and his entourage felt too clinical. The analysis of his assassin was more colorful (that's wrong). And after the killing, the book lost me in clinic and legal minutiae.
Wow, what a waste of time. Dump story, edited down to the point of being nearly incoherent. This is the unabridged version? It listens like a Reader's Digest version of what could have (and should have) been a much longer and better book. Don't waste your money or credits on this one.
