Yeah, It needs a bit more but you still want to turn the pages.
Committed, Dwarf Like, Not distracting
wanted more...I mean they are Dwarves..make it so.
I like the ideas and magic system in these books, but the main character has to be hit in the head with an idea before he takes in to heart....he still hasn't decided to take all the ideas and observations to heart but hey ..just because the 5 other people who were running with scissors just in front of you stabbed themselves doesn't mean you will..so be free run, Forrest run!....I would like this series much more if the main character made choices based on his intelligence level or at least did some thinking, all the smarter characters in these stories make the _(some horrible descriptor)__ choices..just saying.
Story: Basic Boy Meets Dragon and world and grows up.
Review: This is a bit like the Black Cauldron. You expect things to work out and they generally do. I was surprised at the lack of killing in the story, all these fights where they are trying to kill the main character or his dragon friend and no one dies..a little silly that. All in all an engaging story, esp if you aren't a tactics person or too focused on the details.
The story is flow is pretty consistent, there were a few jumps where I felt the editor cut something or it was missing a transition.
This story has some great ideas and neat magic and engaging characters. Some choices the main characters make and some of their drama are just too much sometimes. It is my hope that the third volume (I have already read reviews of the second) can improve and remove some of the silliness. Having said that it is engaging most of the time and not too much of a let down.
Cuz the story could have been great...BUT you can't train characters for 7 years with really mean people and have them fall for obvious tricks every time they train...um Annoying is the only word that addresses this. Same for thinking non part of the group thoughts...its enough time to act like you belong......The story and ideas are great.....but what looks like a Lamborghini is a Ford Taurus...watch the brakes....
You can drive to it, but you won't listen to it all the time...its not that interesting. Too predictable and easy for our beloved hero.
This is like someone followed a how to book on writing a fantasy novel. Character does this, insert name here. Its consistent and reminds me of The Goblin Tower. Your hero is the hero for a reason, and he and his friends have suffered. We'll tell you about it ..but the world the book is in always works out and things never go wrong enough for there to be a problem.
I also wanted to like the Airbender movie...I didn't though. This was better and much more cogent than than, but compared to his other works this story was a bit of a disappointment....just not at the level you expect from Brandon. Now if I was writing it....you could cut me some slack...but not so much.
A little confusing at times....but a great and wonderful tale. Valen, is fun, so is the world...dangerous, nasty, harsh, but fun and intelligent...yeah! I highly recommend this ride!
This was such a clean feeling book...Not quite what I would hope for from Steven King WuTang Style oh well...still wanted to get to the end....
Not horrible, but not really satisfying. I had to turn it off a few times because the life lessons the protagonist picks up are a bit overwhelming at times. I wanted more, still wanting is all I can say.
