Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, the beginning was great, mid way through I loss the feel from the beginning, these characters were too easily out maneuvered...I thought that was a bit of a cop out. Still, a lot of fun.

The Shadow of the Torturer is the first volume in the four-volume epic, the tale of a young Severian, an apprentice to the Guild of Torturers on the world called Urth, exiled for committing the ultimate sin of his profession - showing mercy towards his victim.

Gene Wolfe's "The Book of the New Sun" is one of speculative fiction's most-honored series. In a 1998 poll, Locus Magazine rated the series behind only "The Lord of the Rings" and The Hobbit as the greatest fantasy work of all time.

Ryan says: "great writing, won't appeal to everyone"

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

If you like a good read with very little action.

Would you be willing to try another book from Gene Wolfe? Why or why not?

.......if I run out of books that move a bit faster yes.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

I am not sure the book had pace, I thought it slept in the corner and woke up and shifted every now and then. The narrator did do a good job, although every now and then whispering and comments were to low to be clear when you listen the first time around.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

yes, because they would cut out some of the conversation that was just too much sometimes.

On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

If you could sum up 11-22-63 in three words, what would they be?

    Enjoyable, Non-Scary, King.

What other book might you compare 11-22-63 to and why?

    Good Question........;)

    Which scene was your favorite?

The first time the murder was stopped was crazy.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I was moved by the scene I disliked the most I think, when he gets his rear handed to him. I wanted more from my action hero, who was not.

The orders have been given, and the armies are toiling through the northern mud. Thousands of men are converging on a forgotten ring of stones, on a worthless hill, in an unimportant valley, and they've brought a lot of sharpened metal with them.

Not bad, decent character development, great insights into the society she created. Low action. As I was looking for story & action I was half fulfilled. I also felt like the writer wasn't true to the story; so my final reaction was that it was a bit of a lame duck.

There he introduces us to Liir, an adolescent boy last seen hiding in the shadows of the castle after Dorothy did in the Witch. Bruised, comatose, and left for dead in a gully, Liir is shattered in spirit as well as in form. But he is tended at the Cloister of Saint Glinda by the silent novice called Candle, who wills him back to life with her musical gifts.
