In 1936, George Orwell went to Spain to report on the civil war and instead joined the P.O.U.M. militia to fight against the Fascists. In this now justly famous account of his experience, he describes both the bleak and the comic aspects of trench warfare on the Aragon front, the Barcelona uprising in May 1937, his nearly fatal wounding just two weeks later, and his escape from Barcelona into France after the P.O.U.M. was suppressed.

Roger says: "Engaging insight into Orwell's political education"
"Gives valuable insight into Orwell and Fascism."

Would you consider the audio edition of Homage to Catalonia to be better than the print version?

Have not read the print version.

What other book might you compare Homage to Catalonia to and why?

Who turned the review feature into a marketing ploy? These questions are idiotic.

What does Frederick Davidson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

All you people care about is selling entertainment, right? That said, Davidson was great. He narrated several books that deal with History and Communism. My introduction to him was via The Gulag Archipelago, which I recommend to every American living through these times. I have thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated his craft.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

No, I'm not a stooge who reads or listens to audio books for entertainment. You people clearly think that all is fiction. How Postmodern!

    Any additional comments?

Orwell went to Spain to fight for Socialism. He found out that Socialists become Fascists when the get into power. This book is a good introduction into what motivated him to write 1984.

  • Primer to Postmodernism

Stanley Grenz charts the postmodern landscape. He shows the threads that link art and architecture, philosophy and fiction, literary theory, and television. He shows how the postmodern phenomenon has actually been in the making for a century and then introduces readers to the gurus of the postmodern mind-set. What he offers here is truly an indispensable guide for understanding today's culture.

Would you try another book from Stanley Grenz and/or Nadia May?

Nadia May, sure! She is one of my favorite narrators. Grenz is Emergent.

Has Primer to Postmodernism turned you off from other books in this genre?

No, though it is a poor example, being more propaganda than anything else.

Have you listened to any of Nadia May???s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    As good as the others.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Primer to Postmodernism?

Scenes? That is a dumb question.

    Any additional comments?

Of Emergent, by Emergent, and for Emergent.
