I love the story of Dream Lake. Very sweet and tender. It's a bit awkward at first because the story is actually taking place at the same time as the previous Friday Harbor installment, Rainshadow Road. But once you get past that, it's a great story.
My most memorable moment would be a bit of a spoiler, so I won't elaborate.
A different narrator, a female narrator would have made it better. I've yet to listen to a male narrator of Romance where they didn't make the woman's voice sound whiny and irritating, nor can they bring out the personality of the female character. Whereas most good female narrators are able to have distinguishable voices for both male and female without the male sounding effeminate. They could have had two narrators for this book, one male, one female and it would have been infinitely better.
The romance is irresistible, it's an excellent story. I had read the book prior to getting the audio version. Had I not previously read the story, the narrator would have made it very difficult to focus on the story itself. His poor portrayal is very distracting from the story itself.
I truly wish they would re-record this book with another narrator to give this sweet story justice.
This is my favorite Rachel Gibson book. I was thrilled to find it was finally available on audio. The story of John and Georgie is filled with heart and humor.
I loved the arc of both John and Georgie, how they grew and changed. I also loved the dialogue between Lexi and her mother, and between Lexi and her new found father. And the parallel between both Lexi's insecurities and Georgie's insecurites. Very sweet.
She did a wonderful job on Georgie. Georgie's southern drawl was not over done as they sometimes are. It was just enough to always know that this was a southern gal.
As always with Rachel Gibson books, there was laughter as well as heartfelt awwwwwws.
It is my sincere hope that more (ALL) of Rachel Gibson's backlist of books will be available soon on audible. I will keep checking!
I love all of Rachel Gibson's books, I just don't understand why all of them aren't available on audio. If you want a fun, witty, sexy read/listen - I highly recommend this book and all others by Rachel Gibson.
I read this book prior to buying the audio version. I enjoyed the book immensely, but enjoyed it even more on audio. Angela Dawe does a superb job of bringing Crusie's characters to life. Having been a big fan of Kate Fleming/Anna Fields and her readings of Susan Elizabeth Phillips books, I can say that I've found another favorite reader to fill the void since her passing. Angela Dawe is fabulous, and as for Jennifer Crusie - nothing but classic perfection.
