This was a good story for a shifter/fantasy story. I enjoyed the main characters and the heat between the three made sense and seemed believable. I truly liked the way the author brings the "cats" to life and writes them with a good balance of animal and human traits. Overall, I would try another story by this author and would like to find out about the rest of the family.
W.O.W. This is the fist book of three telling the story of This Man - Jesse Ward. His lady - Ava is a young interior design professional who comes to Jesse's business for some work. What she finds is a gorgeous, intimidating, tormented, overbearing, control freak who sets his sites on making Ava his. He maneuvers himself into her life by purchasing her latest project and their instant insatiable attraction is quite steamy. The story has the perfect balance of shock, awwww and what the? It's a fun loving and super sexy ride as the complicated character of Jesse unfolds before the innocent Ava. I truly enjoyed all three of these books and what makes them extra special is the narrator - Edita Brychta is FABULOUS! Hold on to your nickers, this one has some good twists and turns.
I love a book that catches me by surprise and this one definitely did! I'll not spoil it for anyone but I will say I was pleasantly surprised by the twist in this story. The story is written from both his and her perspectives and I like knowing what all the characters are thinking. Its physiologically challenging and makes you really think about life after a 20 year relationship. The leading man, Todd, is a complete jerk but I think is written much more like a real man than most women want. The reader gets a good perspective on how some men truly think through his character. I wanted to scream at Jodi on several occasions to stop being such a push over but she really come through for me in the end. The story overall is about the digression of a relationship, an affair with a younger woman and the eventual marital separation (with a twist!). If you're looking for something to break the monotony of your usual pace, I recommend this read. I hope you too will be surprised.
Sometimes in life you wake up and your best friend suddenly looks different, more attractive and life changes.....Rule and Shaw have never had that moment. They have loved each other from the beginning and tragedy almost tears them apart but they are able to rebuild from a single thread. This is your typical good girl, bad boy scenario and is a satisfying, sweet and sexy story. Lighthearted and full of good dialogue, I enjoyed this book immensely. You will meet a fun cast of characters, you will watch caterpillars turn into butterflies and I hope you enjoy the ride. I'm looking forward to getting to know more of Jay's marked men and the women who love them!
White Trash Zombie is a fun story about Angel a strung out junkie who is turned into a Zombie but doesn't know by whom. Although her reaction to being turned is less than believable, the story is fun with a good cast of characters. There is a mystery to be solved, a life to be lived (undead of course) and lots of silliness to be had. You will get to watch Angel grow up a little bit and make some hard decisions about life. There's no romance but there are plenty of relationship issues addressed in this story. The end is a fun twist you won't see coming and the author does a good job of keeping the reader guessing about who exactly turned Angel. This is a good start to this new series and the book stands alone well without some crazy cliffhanger at the end. I give Rowland kudos for thinking up something a little different! I'm looking forward to finding out what comes next.
THIS BOOK WILL MAKE YOU CRY! But not in a bad way. The story of Lou and Will is one of SELF; self discovery, self destruction, selfishness and selflessness. Lou and Will are two people who could not need each others strengths more. She is consistently put down by her family and lives in the shadow of her younger sister. He is a man who lived life large and now is confined to a wheelchair and requires constant care. She is the woman who sees Will as a man while he sees her as a woman who needs only to be confidence. Together they go on a journey of self discovery through their working relationship that is honest, raw, sweet and sometimes frustrating. The dialogue is funny and touching written with real honesty. Moyes handles the paraplegic topic with care and consideration, doing a wonderful job of helping the reader understand. The narration is wonderful. The book will consistently surprise you with what happens next. I suspect this book is bound to be a classic and reminds me a little of Jodi Picoult's writing. In all honesty, the ending did tear me up a bit but I promise this will not be a story easily forgotten. Thank you Jojo Moyes!
This was a light read that I enjoyed very much. The story was quite creative and finally someone came up with a unique life situation. Rook is herself quite a Tragic story. Girl on the streets in desperate need of a break that comes in the form of an erotic photo agency. Ronin becomes her partner, protector and helps Rook build herself back up after being beaten down by life. I found the story erotic but not nasty, sweet with a bit of grit. The secondary characters are interesting and well developed and hopefully we'll get to know them better in the next book It's not super long so I was able to listen in one day while I cleaned house. Looking for a New Adult Romance? Try peeking into Rook and Ronin's life, I think you'll find it quite interesting....
First, I bought this book because it was the daily deal. Second, I'm glad I didn't waste a credit on it. The road is set in post apocalyptic times. The reader is never told exactly what happened to create the situation, nor are they told exactly were the characters are. It's essentially a book set in nowhere, some time in the future with very little back story. That being said, the writing is vivid and beautiful but with essentially no story. We follow a man and his child trying to get to the coast hoping that something will be there. They run into a few other characters on the road, none of which are well developed and they have very little interaction with them. The author gives small glimpses into occurrences prior to the trip, but leaves the reader with more questions than answers. I kept waiting for something to happen, for the plot to thicken, for the zombies to come out....ANYTHING would have been better than the nothing this story left me with. The writing talent of this author is undeniable when it comes to painting a picture. I could often see myself standing beside the characters due to the vivid descriptions. If beautiful words and descriptions are all you need, by all means give this book a try. If a well developed story line is important, I'd skip it.
I've had this book on my wish list for a while so I decided to take the plunge. Charley Davidson is a human grim reaper who helps the departed resolve past life issues before crossing over. It was a creative story, well written with a story line that was different from any I've read. The characters are interesting and well developed. Charley has hilarious inner dialog with herself and her dead companions. That alone made me like the book as it created uncomfortable and hilarious situations. There are a couple of love interest in the story including friction with a detective that has the potential to turn into more and a keen physical reaction to "big bad" who only comes to her in her dreams. The book is really two stories in one as Charley resolves the murder of three lawyers on the same night and the truth regarding who is "big bad" and the early development of their relationship. There are many hints as to where the future books will take this story and I'll be pursuing the other Charley Davidson books to find out. If your looking for something light, entertain and is not the beginning of a series than this books for you.
I NEVER give books a 5 star rating across the board but there's always a first. I bought this book on the Daily Deal since I was out of credits and needed a cheap read. WOW, what a great find! The story is about Lavinia, the daughter of Irish indentured servants. Her parents die in route to America and she is given to the kitchen house staff at Tall Oaks plantation. The story takes you through her life as a member of the kitchen house family, move into society and eventually mistress of the Big House. It's a story about family and a glimpse into the inner workings of large plantations from the slaves point of view. The story deals with many of the tragic and unspoken truths of the time. I absolutely could not stop listening to this book. I was brought to tears on several occasions and felt like part of the family by the time I finished the book. Kathleen writes beautifully and the story flows so well time passes quickly. This book is a treasure among treasures and I'm grateful for the time I spent at Tall Oaks. Be sure and listen to the author tell you how the story came about in the authors note at the end. As a final note, the narration is fabulous, that by itself is worth the listen........
I like reading young adult when I feel the need for a good story and this book most definitely did not disappoint. Young Evie and Jack come from different proverbial sides of the track and are thrown together after the "flash" for a journey of discovery and survival. As Evie grows into her powers from a wallflower to Empress of the Arcana, Jack takes her on the ride of her life, literally and figuratively. Their connection is undeniable as they try to fight attraction, self doubt and raw teenage emotions. All this while fighting off the voices in her head, killing zombies, thwarting bad guys, dealing with the death of their families and a deadly game where only one Arcana will come out on top. The story has interesting characters that are all very different. The plot is well laid, the relationships are well developed and the story is thought provoking. Kudos Kresley for reaching outside your regular writing to bring us this wonderful story. Now, my one complaint. I just wish I'd waited a few more days to listen because the second book isn't out yet!
