I LOVE what most consider Young Adult fiction, but I would call it closer to Mature Young Adult. For example, sparkly vampires...not my thing. My favorite Author so far is Karen Marie Moning but I also have favorite books like A Game of Thrones which is EPIC!

  • The Healing: A Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (13 hrs and 15 mins)
    • By Jonathan Odell
    • Narrated By Adenrele Ojo
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Mississippi plantation mistress Amanda Satterfield loses her daughter to cholera after her husband refuses to treat her for what he considers to be a “slave disease.” Insane with grief, Amanda takes a newborn slave child as her own and names her Granada, much to the outrage of her husband and the amusement of their white neighbors. Troubled by his wife’s disturbing mental state and concerned about a mysterious plague sweeping through his slave population, Master Satterfield purchases Polly Shine, a slave reputed to be a healer.

Dream says: "I am a HEALER too"
"In the remembering this book brought me to tears"
Would you consider the audio edition of The Healing to be better than the print version?

I haven't read the print version, but the narrator is AWESOME!!

What other book might you compare The Healing to and why?

Billy. It's a very different, very short book, but it had such insight into another child that had no idea what was happening that the stories have that in common, but Grenada grows to understand.

    Which scene was your favorite?

I think the explanation of how missing names can affect a person and their line. Also, the author's note is very personal and so inspiring that it affected me in a personal way. It was the silence that kept people where they were. That's a powerful idea

Who was the most memorable character of The Healing and why?

Grenada. She grows a lot throughout the story and it makes me wonder about my grandmother's story. She was nearly 100 when she passed and like the author, she was born and raised in Mississippi during a time when it was wrong to be black. Furthermore, once again the author's note was personal to me because my grandmother who was a straight A student and had some college (even as a black woman in the mid 1900's) she dropped out when a teacher told her "You're the best student I've ever had, but why do you try so hard? You're black, you can't be anything but maid" *True Story* Her silence caused her to drop out and do domestic work for the remainder of her time in the South. Can't be a nurse, be a midwife.

    Any additional comments?

This book was recommended to me by a friend and I figured (well, the Author has my Dad's name and my favorite Uncle's name, so it might be a sign) :-) I'm so happy I read this book! I also find it interesting that while I've listened to this book, I've found new family members, was told more stories from my family and it dawned on me that I'm only four - five generations outside of slavery....what other stories and people have I forgotten? Not only that, but as a woman, this story is resonates with me even more! Kudos to Jonathan Odell for weaving a masterful story of HUMAN nature and emotions. If more people took a moment to accept and acknowledge their own faults and why they may be wrong, we would have more stories like these.

  • Dark Lover: The Black Dagger Brotherhood, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (13 hrs and 35 mins)
    • By J.R. Ward
    • Narrated By Jim Frangione

The vampire Darius fears for the life of his half-breed daughter, who is unaware of her unusual destiny. To oversee her transformation, Darius seeks help from Wrath, a dangerous loner and the world's only purebred vampire.

Tracy says: "Amazing start to this awesome series!"
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

A completely different book with no wanna be "urban" vernacular. Also, a COMPLETELY different narrator. This guy was so terrible I couldn't even finish the book between the weak story line and the irregular pauses of the narrator.

What could J. R. Ward have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Really...Wrath, Torment and all the other ridiculously STUPID names and nonsense that was going on. Why did anyone even like Beth!? She is a weak little idiot! **SPOILER** You ALMOST get raped...ALMOST...escape unscathed and it takes you how long to go to the police? You were embarrassed you got attacked and didn't want to talk to anyone? Suck it up and be a woman. Beth's character is as weak as Bella's. Uninteresting, illogical and overly emotional. All I could think was "Please...someone kill that dumb chick already!"

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Jim Frangione?

I would subject any good narrator to reading a book like this.

What character would you cut from Dark Lover?

...All of them. This book is an epic fail for me.

    Any additional comments?

Cheesy, weak and uninteresting book. I can't even return it because I gave up on it and forgot to return the book! I've read fanfictions better than this POS.

  • Dragon Bound: Elder Races Series #1

    • UNABRIDGED (12 hrs and 59 mins)
    • By Thea Harrison
    • Narrated By Sophie Eastlake
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Half human and half Wyr, Pia Giovanni spent her life keeping a low profile among the Wyrkind and avoiding the continuing conflict between them and their Dark Fae enemies. But after being blackmailed into stealing a coin from the hoard of a dragon, Pia finds herself targeted by one of the most powerful---and passionate---of the Elder Races.

    V says: "Woo Freakin Hoo!"
"Steamy Book With a Good Story"
What made the experience of listening to Dragon Bound the most enjoyable?

The narrator was awesome and the story line itself was really good with LOL moments pretty often throughout the story.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Dragon Bound?

Thistle AKA Trix which may seem insignificant when you hear the book, but the cracked me up! Then there are all the sex scenes which made me blush. They are SUPER hot

    Which scene was your favorite?

Drago, Pia and anything with a penny. Freaking hilarious!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Penny for your heart, soul and body

    Any additional comments?

Read this. I'm super picky about Paranormal Romance and although I can appreciate steamy love scenes, if the story isn't there for me it's just smut. This is not smut.

  • Delirium

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 47 mins)
    • By Lauren Oliver
    • Narrated By Sarah Drew

"Ninety-five days, and then I'll be safe. I wonder whether the procedure will hurt. I want to get it over with. It's hard to be patient. It's hard not to be afraid while I'm still uncured, though so far the deliria hasn't touched me yet. Still, I worry. They say that in the old days, love drove people to madness. The deadliest of all deadly things: It kills you both when you have it and when you don't."

    Joyce E McBride says: "Wonderful"
"A Little Boring in Sections But GREAT!"
Where does Delirium rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It's behind "Iced" but I'm partial to Karen Marie Moning. Definetly number 2 so far.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Delirium?

The end...followed by her relationship with her best friend. Reminds me of me and my BFFs

What does Sarah Drew bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Great character personality and emotion into the words, however I wish they has someone else play Alex...she still sounds like either a girl or a 9 year old boy. It did nothing for my image of the hero.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me cry and immediately make a Facebook post....Still upset about the tears

    Any additional comments?

I'm grabbing the second book right now.

  • Iced: A Dani O' Malley Novel, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (14 hrs and 51 mins)
    • By Karen Marie Moning
    • Narrated By Phil Gigante, Natalie Ross
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Dani "Mega" O’Malley plays by her own set of rules - and in a world overrun by Dark Fae, her biggest rule is: Do what it takes to survive. Possessing rare talents and the all-powerful Sword of Light, Dani is more than equipped for the task. In fact, she’s one of the few humans who can defend themselves against the Unseelie. But now, amid the pandemonium, her greatest gifts have turned into serious liabilities.

Katheryne says: "Dude, It exceeded my expectations"
"Could only be better if Dani was 18"
What made the experience of listening to Iced the most enjoyable?

The narrators are FECKING AWESOME!!! I just joined Audible, so I haven't heard a TON of narrators yet, but the combination of Gigante and Palmer was wonderful! I loved how Palmer had a different cadence for each character so you always knew who she was and Gigante....well he just has a sexy voice ;-)

Who was your favorite character and why?

Dani was awesome because she is so multi-faceted! I have read ALL the Fever Series (you should read those too) and Moning is amazing at creating characters that grow. Unlike other series I've read (...Twilight) these characters all have strong personalities and you get swept up by who they are! Truly great character writing. I just wish Dani was 18 so I would have to have the few "ew...she's 14" moments that I did have in the book, however with that said, I didn't feel totally creeped out by them thinking she was young and hot. It's honestly almost ok, because they all realize she is still only 14 years old.

What about Phil Gigante and Natalie Ross ’s performance did you like?

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed out loud a few times throughout the book. Dani is hilarious and her along with's kind of funny...really.

    Any additional comments?

Read this book and everything Moning. I haven't been disappointed yet! And if you've read the Fever Series, READ THIS. I know you're still in love with Mac and Barrons, but this story is so interesting and the characters so intriguing that you will add Dani and Ryodan (maybe) to your next top couple list.
